With the way things are going right now, it wouldn't be surprising.

Yes, and 80 by Friday.

80 by Friday, are you serious, or one of those on here who likes to stir trouble?

This is a serious post, not one of those "Murphy is pulling out of El Dorado" crap.

I apologize to "correct" if they were being serious or repeating information they believe to be true.

No Problem.
One of my friends works there and called me lastnight asking for prayer and told me 80 by Friday.

Was it 40 or 50, then ANOTHER 80? Or was it 40 or 50, then another 20 or 30 or so up to 80 Friday. Because 40 then ANOTHER 80 ,that is HUGE. Not that 80 all together isn't big for our area.

I just can't believe how everything seems to be unraveling.

Pilgrim's Pride has now pulled out of the chamber of commerce.

I give them less than a year before they close completely. I hope I am wrong.

Things are getting bad, and are bound to get worse. Save your money, folks. Dark days are ahead.

Don't fault Pilgrims Pride for pulling out of the Chamber, numerous others have as well. If you made a listing of all the members that have or will cancel Chamber of Commerce memberships it would exceed the foreclosures in the classifieds. Until there is new leadership at the Chamber of Commerce Pilgrims is only the tip of the iceberg.

That may or may not be the reason they pulled out of the Chamber (or better yet, didn't renew their membership) but have you tried to get any "service" for your Chamber membership? It doesn't exist.

I heard that Shayne Crawford who is in charge of getting new members wasn't even at the board meeting this week and several board members asked why he wasnt there. I heard they said he was on vacation and someone said it wasnt a good idea to take vacation when he wasnt doing his job very well.

AMEN! is all I can say but what do you expect when Don Wales is in charge. he's just counting down the days until he retires to NWA
I wonder

Until you go to a board meeting and see what is going on, don't trash Don. I know the behind-the-scenes scene at the chamber, and Don is trying to do things for this community.

There are things in the works that cannot be made public. It isn't easy, folks, to lure people to South Arkansas.

Don gets a bad rap, and it's not fair because few know what is actually going on. This community almost (came within inches) of landing a Wal-Mart distribution center, but because there wasn't a "site-ready" place for them to come to, they went to Louisiana.

One of the reasons for the big land buy and clearing on 167 near the county shop is so that Union County can have a piece of property for a major corp to move right in on.

Major corps don't want to wait for land to be cleared and prepped. They want to move in immediately.

I am by no means "in Don's pocket" nor does he pay me or ask me to stick up for him.

I am just saying that until you are actually there behind the scenes, then please don't judge.

Don really does care about this community.

It isn't the chamber's fault that we are in the mess we are in. It's the economy and the crappy local workforce who would rather take a toke of meth than show up to work.

Just today I was talking with several elected officials about how the county's employees call in sick on a regular basis.

Workers don't know what hard work is. THAT's our problem locally, along with drugs. It isn't the chamber.

Let's focus on positive ways of thinking instead of always attacking people.

Oh yea, you're right. I have never served on any board, anywhere, like the Chamber Board, Main Street Board, Executive Board, and numerous other boards.

I have never talked with a site selector who complained that getting a hold of Don or Shayne on specific days of the weeks is impossible.(By the way, ask someone who plays golf what the name of the Tuesday game at the Lion's Club is called?) ANSWER: It's called "The Shayne Game" Ever wonder why that is?

I have never heard anyone complain of backroom deals and "good ol boy" system at the chamber

I agree with you on a couple of points though, we do have a drug and work ethic problem. but if i had a nickel for everytime i heard the "we almost landed" story, I could pay for everyone to go to rehab!

Trust me, I know more than I am saying!!! If you knew me, you'd know!
I wonder

Well I am sure you have your points, REAL GOP, and I am not trying to disparage you by any means. I am just saying that it is damn hard to convince ANYONE to come to South Arkansas. Don has his hands full.

Who could do better? Name some suggestions? I mean, I am open. I'm sure others would be open too. We have to have suggestions for people who would do better before we run Don out of town. Otherwise we are stuck with no one. Who do you know who could do better than Don and who would be willing to take on his job? The list is small, I assure you.

That is the crux of this debate, my friend.

You are wrong about two things...The Shayne game is on Wednesday and it's for members only at the ElDorado Golf and Country Club. But you are correct about everything else. Time for change!
