I'm new to the area and in the process of buying property. Unfortunately, the first real estate agent that I dealt with on a property was less than honest. It became obvious that she had her own agenda on who she wanted to get the contract on the property she was selling. Not naming names, but she works for the largest real estate agency in town so needless to say I have a bad taste in my mouth for that agency. What real estate agents in town can be trusted and will work hard to find a property that a customer wants (which seems to be difficult with the limited offerings)?

Century 21 and Southern Realty is who I would use. I had same experience with Jan's realty. We were in middle of accepting a counter offer on house and Jan's agent took another offer right in the middle of our offer. At best what they did was shady and at worst illegal. They wanted to wait on offer from there own company so they would get higher commission. I would not use them. There are some good realtors there but I would not use them.

With the evolution of technology and the Internet, real estate agents have much less value than in the past. Do it your self!

You'd be better off asking your current neighbors and co-workers, than asking on here. I would mention one name, but not on here.

Zillow is good for searching for properties but if you want to make an offer on a property that is represented by a realtor, you have to deal with a agent to make an offer. There's no way around it.

This is the EXACT same thing that happened to me. Exactly. I've since heard from a few friends in the area that the agent that I dealt with is not to be trusted. Wish I had known that two months ago.

yes they robbed us of great property. Wish I had known too. We had even made better offer but they talked they made sure they had their own seller for their buyer so they could get all the commission. We even made better offer, I had even turned in earnest money check with acceptance offer!

All the necessary information that a buyer would need can be found online. And that's all the real estate agent would know. Find any imbecile to make an offer through. Doesn't matter, but agents don't hold any value in today's world. I believe that was the point being made, which is true.

My concern was not that a selling agent was honest about a property, it was that the agent wasn't honest with me during the offer and acceptance stage and chose to promote another buyer while I was in the middle of negotiating the counter offer. When an agent is representing a property a buyer MUST go through that agent to make an offer. A buyer can get his own agent to represent him but that agent MUST submit the offer through the selling agent. There's no way around it. The seller is locked into a contract with the agency that states they cannot accept an offer outside of that agency. So, in other words, the selling agent can control what offers the sellers see. If they prefer that the property go to a certain buyer, they can steer the sellers into accepting that offer. If a property is being sold by owner, then the buyer and owner can deal with each other directly. If it's listed by an agency, the selling agent is the go-between.

That probably means that its a company problem. Not just one realtor. Prob should at least be reported to BBB

Most all real estate agents and brokers are the scum of the earth. They do nothing but open a door to a house that's not theirs to make their money. They are middle men, and should be cut out. You can buy and sell your house on your own if you have just a small bit of common sense.
In my opinion they are a class lower than used car salesmen
but they think their shit don't stink.
Go figure ?

They would look into it and find if they are indeed steering sellers to buyers within the agency. Problem with issues like this is no one ever does anything to get the ball rolling.

My problem is that the counter offers and counters to the counters were all by phone...nothing was in writing, it was all over the phone and in good faith. Nothing other than the initial offer was in writing and I never received it after it was countered. In hindsight, I should have gotten EVERYTHING in writing and then I would have proof that unethical acts were occurring. It's obvious the agent knew this or she would have put everything in writing, as is done by most honorable sales agents.

It's water under the bridge now. I will just do my best to steer any new hires at my company away from that agency.
