It is a very difficult place to work due to changing strategies and many incompetent mid level managers. It is a place where you may have to guess what you are supposed to do or be extremely adept at brown-nosing. It is sad that they are located in El Dorado, because they chase good talent away or fail to attract the best even with very competitive salaries. The cost of living is not good. Crime s high and the folksy element although sincere, can be off-putting and at times shallow. People that moved to El Dorado in the 1950's are still considered outsiders. The HR, Merchandising, IT and to a much lesser and smaller degree, some elements of operations are very difficult to work in. I would NEVER let a friend work at this company or recommend it until the new and quite fantastic CEO gets the ship righted and the old guard out.

If you can handle being treated poorly and make a decent salary or use Murphy as a stepping stone for anything better, do it. There are a plethora of egotists. They think they are a best practice organization, but will go the way of the buggy whip if they don't start thinking like a retail organization. They were foto mat kiosks and now they are gas stations. Creativity is not allowed. Questioning is not allowed. Professional disagreement is not allowed. Pointing out flaws in logic, contracts, processes...not allowed and you will be black listed as a trouble-maker the minute you do so. Think stepford wives, but more like stepford employees especially Merchandising, IT and HR. No thinking outside the box or trust me it is over.

From the Murphy propaganda machine:

"Murphy USA strives to supply the highest quality, lowest-priced gas" TRUE "and operate from the most convenient locations." NOT SO TRUE, MOSTLY JUST WAL-MART "Why? Because Murphy USA understands how many local communities and families depend on us everyday," FLUFF "and we genuinely care about our customers." NOT TRUE EXCEPT GOOD PEOPLE AT STORES WORKING IN THEIR TOWNS AROUND THEIR FRIENDS

"The employees at Murphy USA uphold" IN THE FIELD YES! "the following core values that set the standard for our customer service oriented workplace:"

"Integrity - Do the Right Thing"
NOT SO IN EL DORADO

"Humble Leadership, Work as a Team, Serve and Protect"

THERE IS NO SERVANT OR TEAM LEADERSHIP. THAT IS A PIPE DREAM. LEAN ON THE VENDERS AND SUBS TO DO THE WORK AND COMPENSATE FOR ABILITY BY HAVING A BUNCH OF TURN KEY FOLKS FILL THAT GAP IN YOU AND YOUR TEAM'S ABILITIES. IF EGO WAS A COMMODITY, EVERYONE AT THE HOME OFFICE IN MID TO MID SENIOR POSITIONS WOULD BE ABLE TO RETIRE THE NATIONAL DEBT. THEY DO A GOOD JOB OF PROTECTING THEIR SANDBOX AND JOB

"Drive Superior Performance - Measure...Execute"

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE JUST NOT EMPOWERED, THEN EXECUTED

"Responsibility - Own Your Job"
OWN THE STATUS QUO AND STAY IN THE LINES

"Listen; Communicate to All Employees",
LMAO. THE NEW CEO IS TRAINING PEOPLE WHAT IT MEANS TO COMMUNICATE AND SMILE, BUT HE WILL HAVE TO BREAK THE WILLFUL ARROGANCE OF HIS MID SENIORS FIRST.

"Customers, Stakeholders" LIP SERVICE

"Celebrate" YEAH, THIS IS TRUE ONCE A YEAR AT DISNEY FOR THE MANAGERS AND HANGERS ON
well

Looks like some managers have seen your posts. One of them must have been the person that judged your posts Clueless, Nnuts, and Disagree. Doesn't really matter though, because everyone in and around El Dorado already know about that place and they wouldn't have gotten upset and judged your posts negatively if it wasn't true.

Thanks!
My wife has worked for Murphy oil for several years and I still find myself amazed at how good of a company Murphy is. They truly care for their employees and offer them numerous opportunities to further their education an refine their job skills. The work environment is second to none an those that work hard are readily acknowledged for their work ethic. In my opinion if your a professional who isn't afraid to work hard you won't be able to find a better company to work for.

Outstanding!! One of the finest companies to work for in the USA! You will work hard but be compensated very well for your efforts. You will also be treated in a professional caring manner. I've been around companies through out the country, Murphy oil is without a doubt a wonderful place to work. Those who don't believe this is true are entitled to their opinion, but it is my opinion that if you do the right thing you will truly be rewarded and be treated with respect as well as being treated in a caring atmosphere!
