You guys are all morons. Blame the highway patrol, law enforcement, for your traveling inconvenience... It's amazing we have so many experts.

They are handling a fatal accident, communicating with the coronor, fire department, crash reconstructionist, ambulance personel, tow truck operators, department of transportation, trucking companies, hazardous material, local law enforcement agencies, collecting witness statements, communicating with dispatchers to have other troopers notifiy family, 175 questions needed to be answered on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Inspection form, 220 questions answered on the Illinois 10-50 crash report, ALL done by the trooper handling the crash before he leaves the scene, who has to wait for the coronor to release the scene to him after they are done.

AND, for more fun and joy, they have to worry that you idiots rubber necking, trying to see some blood and gore, as you inconviently drive by, don't rear end somebody else, or run over them, causing another accident. Please, just shut your mouths, and pray for the families. People continue to amaze me on how truly stupid they are!

Hi! I was reading the posts about the accident and saw yours about your father-in-law. First, let me say, I am sorry to hear of his death and hope and pray your family is coping well. Our family lived in Clay City for 5 years and my husband was a minister there. I was curious who your father in law was and if we knew him. Would you let me know? I would be very thankful! We try to keep up with news from areas we have lived but it is very hard at times. Thank you!

Today is the one year anniversary of the death of Milton Muhammad. My name is Wendy and I am the woman who Milton was helping when he was killed. Everyday of my life has been so different since this happened. I think about Milton all the time. I talk to him, see him in my mind... standing by my car on the highway, calling 911 for me, putting out hazard triangles so that we would be safe. I knew him for such a short time. Minutes. I don't know anything about his family and friends - I think about them too. I want them to know how much he meant to me - and how much he still means to me.
I think about Tim Meadors quite a bit too - I hope that he has found peace through this - I was involved in something with 2 other men who I didn't know - but these 2 men are in my life forever... It is all so powerful and sad. I honor Milton by working to move forward each day. I try not to take anyone or anything for granted - it's a long road I'm on. He is an angel to me - I can't remember the sound of his voice very well... I have a picture of his truck that I took out of my drawer a few moments ago- it is the first time since the accident that I've been able to look at it for more than a few seconds. I took the picture the day after he died - My friend Molly was driving me out of Effingham and we came upon Milton's truck. I had to get out and stand with it for a few minutes... I don't know why - I just needed to be there. I took a picture. This all happened to fast.. and they took me away in the ambulance so quickly - I still have a hard time believing it all happened, but I know it did.
As I heal, I continue to send love and strength to everyone touched by this event - And Milton, if you can hear me, thank you for helping by me... we miss you and I will never forget you.
With love and kindness,
Wendy

It is good that you still continue to express your gratitude. I am so grateful that there are still angels like him out there who help strangers. It is so sad though that his life was cut short. People please remember to slow down for cars on the side of the road.

While looking for information on an accident that happened on I 57 early Sunday morning i came upon all these posts. We were traveling home from Chicago when we saw a small car that appeared to have been in a one car accident! My husband being a police officer stated that probaly no one survived this accident. i cannot find any information on that accident.

I am so sorry to read of this accident, so many lives will be affected and no one will be the same who knew those involved or who even passed by the scene, I know I am a surivor of a young lady who was killed in an accident 10 years ago, I still think about her and the accident.

To all involved my pryers go out to each and every one of you. God be with you as you continue to deal with the results of this accident.

I do not live close but I know someone that was involved and they are so distraught they can't talk to us about it.
Thank you so much for any info that is on the news.
My husband just told me that they are now starting to move again on the highway.

It seems to you the firetruck or the police cruiser could have pulled up in the grass to block the view of passing motorists from the gore of the horrible scene

Maybe this will remind those who travel in weather like that. Or read road reports.

Come on people use your head
Don't travel in this bad of weather!
Get a room for the night.
or just stay home n bad weather.

Be honest Who is responsible for you?

From what I seen, when I ame trough, the accident wasn't in Effingham. It was well north of the city. About mile marker 174, or so. I was southbound, and bild off at the 203, and ran 45 south. I don't know any of te details, but Saluki_fan, you should be made aware of the fact that it isn't up to the Effingham PD to "protect" people from reality. Perhaps THAT is part of what is wrong with this world now!!!

I was eastbound, forced to exit at Altamont, police were routing us off the highway and at stop signs in Altamont, US 40 had detour signs as did effingham on fayette ave. There are only so many police and for them to even get through to that traffic mess as well as assisting accident victims, bet they were very busy. I was still in the traffic for over an hour but I did see cops, lots of them, btw why was Julie coming from Wisconsin to St. Louis via Effingham, was I55 closed also?

As we were driving north on hwy 57 out of Effingham this afternoon, we could see dark smoke rising up to the sky, and we were several miles from the accident. We passed Co Rd 1000 and about 5 miles later, were stopped behind two clogged lanes of cars and trucks. The accident site wasn't visible from where we stopped, but you could tell it was really big and really bad. the only emergency vehicle that passed the lines of stalled traffic, was a water truck from the south. We sat for 45 minutes and decided to make a U turn and find an alternate route to continue north. It was still smoking and smouldering as we turned around. It must have taken a long time to put out and cool down. It had to be very bad.

WE KNOW ... WASN'T IT AMAZING THAT NO ONE WAS DIRECTING TRAFFIC !!!! After we exited the Interstate, we took Hwy 40. There we finally saw ONE local police office & instead of helping direct traffic, he was pulled off the road "chatting" with a guy in a pick-up truck ! TOTAL INCOMPETENCE on the part of the local Police/Sheriff and WHERE WAS THE HIGHWAY PATROL ??? We saw NOT ONE on the Interstate helping with the traffic MESS !!! Shame on the Illinois Highway Patrol !!!!
Rita, dear, that's what signs are for. You don't know the full story. Let the officials do their jobs. They have their system of doing things. Let's see you complaining when you need them for something important.
