I understand that everyone is fed up and tired of the world around them. What gets me is that most of the posts are filled with hatred towards the ones actually posting and not towards the people responsible. Our county is run by board members that think they own Effingham and can do with it what they want. The whole town is upset about the way things are, but what can you do?
I have never once even entered the rosebud theatre because I don't have the money to think about getting tickets for that place right now, but what makes it so special. Upper class Effingham needs expensive entertainment? Why are we bailing out this place when there are many other businesses in trouble too? What's good for one, should go for them all. Did the federal AIG incident not educate anyone? We should start with businesses that have been here for many, many years that need help. That theatre has been in trouble for a while, and yet we are going to go ahead and waste time and money to save it. Why not focus on the fact that the budget is not matching up, instead of a place to sit and watch a show. How many board members do you think have 2010 tickets bought already? How many do you think were investors in it's build? As far as the police trouble in Effingham city and county, I have to say that we do have a problem. Not just the police, but the entire justice system. Our courthouse has turned into a business, where you make deals to stay or leave, but either way it will cost you. Why does every injustice have to be paid with money. Crimes will always be around, but every law we have has another law that protects the courts from the first. If the system were fair, a person could go to a courtroom and defend themselves without having to understand the legal crap you are preached over while there. Why would anyone hire an attorney to defend them when you can plead guilty and pay less? How is this justice? How is my crime made better by taking my hard earned money? The fact is is that how can you be held accountable for breaking laws they you can't even understand while reading? We sure could use cliff notes on illinois vehicle code. |
