Does anyone remember a murder of a mother and her daughter that happened west of town between troy and collinsville in 1974 or so (I think maybe it was 74). The area it happened in was on the north side of I-55 on a dead end street of of the north frontage road. I think the subdivison might have been called wilson heights.
Seems if I remember that they found voodoo dolls and other black magic and witchcraft type items in the house.I don't think it was ever solved.

I think the girl would have been in the 7th or 8th grade at the time.
Seems like it was in Dec. or Jan. so it could have been 75 also

yep - I am younger than her the word was that it was some type of mafia hit, the girls name was Angela Molina I believe. Not sure where they lived. Not much was ever said about it, I know in the yearbook they had a section about her, I do not recall ever meeting her, but I was probably 4th grade or so when this happened.. it would be interesting to find out what happened if they ever caught someone, etc. Nowdays the news would be all over this story.

I was 2 or 3 yrs older than she would have been at that time. I asked someone about the same age as her about it not long ago, they also remembered it. They also could not recall much about it. I just remembered the details about the whole thing being very strange. I just thought of it after being involved in a conversation about some other murders that happened around that same time frame.

i never heard anything about it being connected or with witchcraft stuff.. probably need to get access to that police file, if it is public property? that'd be interesting...there may be a movie story here....

I do remember the part about the voodoo dolls, I think they were found under the kitchen sink ?? That may be why I haven't forgot about it.
For one thing there wasn't a lot of crime of any kind back then in Troy, then to add something like that to it was very strange!!

Did you live on Brookside? If so where about? If you don't mind saying, I was just wondering if I knew who you were.

hi, I lived in avalon heights.. the brookside of town though... anything south of the creek at the botom of cemetary hill /reese's house was brookside, back in the day...what class were you?
I pulled the yearbook it was angela molina, and it was in '74. It has her birth and departutre date with a photo of her at the front. Poor girl was only 13, that's just not right. I hope she's in a better place.
as to the voodoo dolls, it would be great to hear from an ex-cop or someone who knew more. i had not heard a thing about that, but i was only like 9 at the time...Can you imagine the news coverage of that case had it happened today? wowza!

This is weird, I was searching this on the internet after a conversation with my father. Angela is my second cousin and her mom, Sophie, was my great aunt. I was just told this story today. I hope my aunt & cousin are safer and happier now in heaven.

I watch many of the crime shows, that solve cold case files and this case has always been on my mind. I went to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic school and Angela sat next to me in class. Angela was one of the sweetest girls I have ever known and always had a smile on her face. It was horrible when it was announced in class that Angela and her mother had been shot. We also heard it might be mafia related, but rumor also included that Angela's father might have been involved with the mafia. It was also the first time any of us kids in class found out Angela's parents were divorced. My mother and I went to the funeral home, at my insistence, and we were shocked that it was open casket. It was upsetting to see mother and daughter in this state and to this day, I can still see both of them in my mind. Has anyone been held accountable for this horrendous crime?

I do believe that my great uncle was involved somehow in the murder and I know his past had something to do with it. My father told me something about him and the mafia but I cannot remember. I believe after the murder though he fled the country. To this day, no contact was ever made between him or my family at all. I don't know where he is or where he was to be honest. I just wish I could get justice for my aunt and my cousin Angela. It breaks my heart to hear these lives taken too soon.

Angela was attending public school in Troy at the time of her murder. I was a close friend,we rode the bus together and had both spent a great deal of time at each other's houses as girls do in the 7th grade. Never saw her dad but she spoke about him often and in caring terms despite her parent's divorce She was a very sweet girl and a good friend. The murders really messed with a lot of us as there was no crime in Troy back then, much less a murder of a classmate. I remember the discussion about the voodoo dolls that were found in the home but know that this was common practice in her culture. I vividly remember attending her funeral in a now demolished catholic church in E St Louis and going to her gravesite. I did return to her gravesite for several years after her death as did several other classmates as we tried to honor her memory.

I still look back at the yearbook from that year and see pictures of her in chorus, student council etc and wonder what she would have accomplished today if she still alive

Every now and then I will look her name up to see if there is any information that can explain what happened. So sad for the family. I dont think they had lived in Troy very long before it happened. I always wondered if they came to Troy to hide from someone after I heard about what happened.

I didn't know Angela, but I remember being devastated to hear about it. I was in maybe the 7th grade at the time and as someone commented, crime in Troy was unheard of. Pretty much still is. A mother and daughter murdered was shocking. I still think about her, wonder about her, and hope the prson who did this was brought to justice.
