Congratulations. It seems Buncombe County Sheriff's Office is becoming more professional. I guess credit goes to Van Duncan. Good job.

It dang sure does, but I'd say that a lot of the credit would go to the Sheriff, but I think that the troops are the ones that should get the majority of the credit. They have cowboy'd up and done what they had too. A far cry from 7 months ago.

You are right. Sometimes the right leader can make a big difference in the outcome.

Sadly most of the time I find myself in the voting booth I am choosing the lesser of two evils, but occasionally I have the honor of voting FOR someone, and Van Duncan is one such case.

And I have not been disappointed.

It takes several hundred hours of training in Police related subjects to get this award. There is a Basic Award, and Intermediate award, and the Advanced Award. It's actually pretty common for an Officer with several years in Law Enforcement to attain this award. I got mine almost 20 years ago. He is the first Officer I have ever heard of that got press coverage for getting it. Congratulations!

I got my Advance Law Enforcement Certificate in 1999. Duncan was not in office then.
To receive this you have to have so many years in law enforcement and so many training hours.

And why would credit go to the Sheriff for all the work and training done by the Deputy...? From the sounds of it this Deputy was taking care of business for years to get to this place so are you ok with giving Medford the credit...

You're absolutely right. The Sheriff has nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Your right, but with that being said, this current sheriff is so proud of one of his officers personal achievements that he wanted to let everyone know. That's something Medford never cared about. Makes everyone want to work toward the goal, not just for yourself, but to be recognized for your hard work by others.

I think its a great thing to do, as well. Recognition for a job well done is a good thing....I never get it, but yet, I am happy to see others getting their rewards.(wink)
