Woman Unhurt After Carjacking At St. Louis Mills Mall - KTVI

Hazelwood Police are investigating a carjacking that occurred Thursday night in the parking lot of the St.

Not to diminish the danger with this particular crime, but what about the crimes in Village Square (also Hazelwood) in the last 2 weeks?

-Attempted carjacking on 10/19/09 approximately 645 pm
-Attempted car theft on 10/20/09 approximately 2 pm
-FIVE vandalisms on 10/29/09 between the hours of 12 pm and 5 pm (again, broad daylight) that involved the theft of catalytic converters, and expensive repairs to all vehicles involved.

Not to mention the countless tire slashings, physical assaults/altercations, armed robbery....sorry, nothing else comes to mind right at the moment considering the amount of crap I've already mentioned.

They need to revoke Convergys's Business License because of the ENORMOUS burden that Convergys places on the community. Of the hundreds of people that Convergys employs I'd be willing to bet only a handful don't have warrants or felony priors. That place is a SEWER!

I skate at that mall's ice rink pretty regularly. In fact, I was just there on Wednesday, a day before the carjacking. I really try to avoid being there after dark. Although some places aren't safe during the day, either. I used to live in Hazelwood, till the mid-late 90s.

One of the safest malls? Are you kidding me? I've seen some of the people that mall caters to and believe me, I do NOT feel safe there. Especially after dark!

Granted, this kind of thing can happen anywhere and it is a matter of taking your safety into your own hands but I am so not impressed with that mall or the area.

heres the problem..........crimes like this will continue to happen due to the fact that most police departments are not allowed to prusue, thugs know this and they know where to go and commit crime!

There seems to be this kneejerk reaction that somehow the Mills is the new Northwest Plaza.(On that note, what was there before there was a Northwest Plaza?)

You assume that North County is "the black part of town" and suddenly you fear for your property values and your school quality. How selfish and inaccurate that is.

Yes, North County is a diverse part of St. Louis County. We are open to a culturally diverse neighborhood as opposed to the rest of the county where neighborhoods are segregated by their culture. Such is our nature in this part of town going a long way back before there were black people or even white people.

We really don't care if you think "the neighborhood is turning black". It's been like that long before you ran away to South St. Louis, St. Charles, West County, and now spilling into Warren County. Where's your "the neighborhood is turning black" garbage for the crimes that have been committed in Wentzville or the racist jerk in O'Fallon who was targeting Asian people?

Francis Howell School District is financially fumbling, while Hazelwood School District is thriving. Riverview Gardens would be as successful as Hazelwood hadn't been for a selfish superintendent that bled the school district dry. And yet the focus on Riverview's problems is that "it is a black neighborhood" while the problems with Francis Howell are moot.

You see it is not us that is the problem. It is everyone else from the outside who thinks that we have problems. We are fine. We don't mind having black neighbors or hispanic neighbors or asian neighbhors. We do mind having racist neighbors and fools from outside our neighborhood setting themselves up to be fodder for the cowards who call our diversity a problem rather than a trait.

The ignorance is not just limited to race. Today I saw TEAbaggers protesting in Florissant against a ballot that could improve the police response with emergency 911 service. I highly doubt these people are from Florissant or even North St. Louis County.

They call us "unsafe", "dangerous", and "black", yet they don't want the county government to do its job and serve an area that has gained a reputation for being "dangerous". This is a COUNTY government thing. What would they rather see this money spent on? Another failed casino in Columbia Bottoms? A 1-7 football team to stay in town. Heaven forbid they want the police to nab crooks efficently or the ambulance to save them from dying. That might constitute as socialism. The entire area has been plagued with car break-ins recently, and it is not caused by people from North County.
