Why has The Plaza sank so low?
|
||||
|
Unfortunately people are afraid to go there. Too many shootings, etc. Stores are closing left & right. I grew up in St. Ann, lived there for 25 years of my life. I remember walking there from our house on a friday night & back home when the mall closed. It used to be a safe hang out for kids. It is sad to see it in the condition it has become. My mom still lives there, I wish she would move.

Hopefully the Plaza will be redone. There are plans in the works. But I'm sure it will be a while. St. Ann though, is still a great place to live |

Why can't the St. Ann police keep the mall safe? It isn't that big. I know they have a station right in the mall. Where are all of these thugs coming from?

The thugs come to the mall just to hang out, not to shop. NW Plaza used to be a great place to meet people, now you're afraid to make eye contact for fear that someone might think you're 'dissing' them. If you take out the food court and instead encourage separate, individual restaurants where people have to walk in and be seated by a waitperson. Beef up security, arrest loiterers, have a curfew for minors without adult supervision. The food court has been the death of many malls in America. |

From the time that it opened until the time they enclosed it, N.W. Plaza was a delight for shopping, eating and outside displays and programs. It seems that groups of teens took over after it was enclosed. They would intimidate older shoppers by walking in wide groups and staring down older folks who tried to get by them. Perhaps they had no where else to go. Now I am old and afraid because I can't run away from any one who threatens me. I am trying to get up enuff nerve to explore Macy's.

They used to have "sit-down" restaurants. Remember when Pasta house was there across from the food courts. There is also Cancun and St. Louis Bread Company at the mall.

I remember when they had Famous Barr, Sears, Penneys, Woolworths, Vandeverts, Walgreens, Baskin Robbins, Spencers Gifts, The Gap, Radio Shack. The fountains were beautifu, the worse thing that happened there was when somebody would put soap in the fountains. The white Christmas lights were beautiful and would win awards every year. Remember the fountain in Woolworths? It had those clear strings coming down frome the ceiling by the escalators with the water rolling down. I've never seen one like that since. The fountain in the middle of the mall would shoot up about 30feet.

its dead because, better malls are built. essentially those that go to NW, go because they cant get out to the Mills or any place better.
NW and other malls, have become a breeding ground for gangstas and thugs. i still remember being dragged to that mall a few days or so after a murder happened there. i would rather not go to a mall than to go to NW. it also isnt helping the mall that many stores are no longer there. who the heck wants to shop in an empty mall? i think Tilt leaving was the first indication of the down hill spiral for NW. but, i think the main reason for it dying away is because of better competition coming from the Mills.... |

I think a larger part of it is Walmart just across the street. People can pick up most things they need there at a much lower price. The mall today is actaully not a scary place at all. I still shop at Sears because the prices are great and the Mall is really clean. There is simply noone there now at all its completly dead all the time. The crime went away due to there is no or very little commerce happening at the mall. I think St. Ann could really make a play to turn it around now however its going to be hard to get merchants in that mall with the cash and credit slowdown we are currently in. I wish the Mall Luck it is really a nice place and has huge potential.

I moved here in 1987 and the Plaza was uncovered. I don't recall when they "put the top on", but I remember a lot of stores inside. Now, it's nothing. Rumor has it that Walmart is supposed to be opening a SuperCenter there and that it should be on the side where Lindbergh Blvd. will be. That will not help the mall though. They need to get more stores to open up inside the mall. There are hardly any people going there. I live so close and can see the parking lot when I drive by. The only stores doing business are Macy's (not much) and Sears. Late at night there are hardly any cars there. Christmas time, the lot is hardly even full.

black people have nothing to do with the death of many malls.
blacks were there just as much as whites, when whites were running rampant there. the whites left, because a bigger better mall was built and it had much more to offer. that just left black people, who either had transportation woes, or money woes and merely wanted a place to hang out. dont blame blacks for the destruction of malls. blame the greedy people that wanted bigger and better. you get your bigger and better but at a cost. im sick and tired of black people being the default for blaming the woes of whatever in this country. is it too hard to accept the fact that race had nothing to do with the death of the malls? i mean before the mills many whites were at Northwest Plaza....but the Mills was built, it offered much more and it had the benefit of many stores, and being one level (unlike the Galleria). anyone that had a way migrated over there. blacks are only being blamed cause they were the ones left there. whether blacks would be the last there or not, the fact is people would have still stopped coming to Northwest Plaza simply because most of the stores and cinema are gone. they have nothing to offer anymore. you only go there cause you cant afford or have no way transportation to get to the mall. |

Blacks - no job, no car? hush your mouth!! LOL |
