i'm happy for officer burkey that this is all over. i'm sure it has been a horrible ordeal for him. no one ever wants to take the life of another, but sometimes it has to happen, he has a commitment to his family to go home at the end of his shift, not to mention his commitment to the city of galion to protect them.

From what I understand this was a first response to shoot and ask questions later. That should always be a last resort. This Man had a family too. He served our Country and now we're thanking a cop for shooting Him. He's not a hero he's aa criminal. He should serve a life sentence for Adams death.

You are a fool. Burkey is one of the best, and most honorable men I have ever worked with. To say that he murdered this guy is unthinkable. To say that the drunk was putting down, or had already put down his gun and Burkey shot him anyway, for no apparent reason, is just plain stupid.

Ok, I wasn't present for the shooting of Adam, so I can't comment on whether it was justified or not. However, Adam was a good friend of mine. We served in Iraq together for 11 months, and it deeply saddens my heart to know that he survived that horrific ordeal, only to be gunned down here in our own country. Adam was a great friend, and a damn fine soldier. He always tried to project a tough exterior, but as one who knew him best, Adam was a very kind and noble person. He helped me through some rough times in MY life, and I am eternally grateful to him for that. He was a good man, perhaps a bit hot-headed on occasion, but he didn't deserve to die like this.

As for Officer Burkey: the only ones who know what truly happened that night are him and Adam. I see no point in debating whether or not Officer Burkey was in the wrong or not. What's done is done, no amount of arguing about it will bring Adam back. If Officer Burkey was preemptive in shooting, may he live with that guilt till his last breath; if he was not, then may his soul find comfort in the fact that he did what he had to do in service of protecting the other people present.

Whatever the case, I Mourn Adam's death greatly, and I hope that he has finally found peace...

Another notch on the Glock. Thanks GPD for keeping what remains of Galion safe. That guy was a timebomb. I knew something like this would happen.

Very well said. Adam was a wonderful person. He was caring beyond a doubt. Went above and beyond to help any of his friends in need. He served our country and had one of the biggest hearts. Every person who had the chance to meet and know him know's the genuine and loving person he was. It's been almost 6 years since his passing and his memory is still and will always be with myself along with everyones hearts he touched. Deep condalinces go out still to his family in which months before his death his little brother passed away in which his family lost not only one but both sons with in a year. So for all those people putting comments on here sinuating he was a hot head, consider being a vet and seeing some of what he seen, along with losing your little brother so suddenly. Put your self in other peoples shoes before voicing your opinion about a good man you obviously didnt know very well if you are voicing nothing but negative statments.

Adam was a great friend of mine in the military and he helped me out with everything, he was not a ticking time bomb and I wish I knew what happened. I really want to talk with the officer involved. After returning from Iraq I had talked to Adam about visiting him, I talked to him a week before he died.

If anyone knows of his family or contact information please let me know.

Thank you, I am on face book.

Take care.

Did you really know him? Unless you have served in the military during a war and seen action you have no idea what these returning soldiers are carrying around with them when they come home. Then to lose his brother a short time before that only adds to the pain and turmoil. I know this: the galion police officer must not be trained to be good under pressure or to be a good shot. He could have shot him in the hand/arm that held the gun and he would still be with us. Is the policeman still with the department or any other force? I believe all policemen should undergo more training and renew it once a year, this should never have happened. I have a question and would like to know the answer if anyone knows for sure. DID THE POLICEMAN SERVE IN OUR MILITARY? WOULD BE INTERESTING TO KNOW. My thoughts and prayers are still with this family, I will not forget Adam.

Were you there, did you testify to what you saw???? When you say that "you worked with" means you are on the force too??? HOW much REAL training do the men on the force have, both in using a gun, facing situations such as the one with ADAM and sensitivity training. Was he(Burkey) capable of shooting someone in the arm or did he have to have a bigger target. I no longer live in Galion but I did at one time for 15 yrs. and the police, council and mayor were corrupt which has come out more than once since I moved away and they hit the news and newspapers in Columbus.

MarineMom you are very confused as to real life. Ask your Marine if they are taught to shoot a hand. EVERYONE that is trained in firearms is trained to shoot center mass. If anyone ever tells you they were trained to shoot in a leg or arm they didn't pay a bit of attention and need their weapons removed immediately. In the movies they shoot guns out of people's hands, in real life they shoot center mass. You may not like that, but it's reality. The officer did what he was trained to do.

I was not there. I worked with Berky at another department. He was the best officer there. he's the best officer I've ever worked with. he is a completely by the book kind of officer. this was not a situation for sensitivity. this was a tactical situation. police officers are not trained to shoot in the arm or the hand that is made up TV bullshit. police officers are re-certified in firearms every year.

I cannot believe this is even a debate. I loved Adam, because he was such a great person. He fought hard for everything in his life. How you people bashing him can be so callous to the friends and family, to those who loved him is deplorable!! I couldn't care less who pulled the trigger or who started it. There are more effective ways to subdue someone who is irate. Death should only be deemed necessary as a last resort. To PROTECT and SERVE. NOT to SHOT and JUDGE LATER! Adam is not around to defend his actions, so people will label him as they see fit. I for one, believe Adam was a great person. I cant claim I know what happened during those dark hours. I only know the love I had for the friend who went out of his way for those he loved. Please do all of us a favor and stop arguing over something you have no right to judge on. Have some respect for his family and friends. We are plenty and we loved him truly.
