Proof that teens are stupid. It's a basic instinct to know when you need sleep. It's part of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

I took away my grandsons cell phone, because he was spending to much time texting. I'm keeping it until he proves to me that he can be responsible.

As far as I can tell, the only problem it causes to my 14 year old grandson is that he gets up tired.
Now to an adult that seems pretty obvious, but to a 14 year old it seems to come as a surprise.
As my old pal LASunshine suggests, it's time the parents told the kids what they shouldn't be doing. Unlike Rosepetal who appears to think kids can do no wrong.
Rosepetal..........your ideas will bite your bum before long.
Kids are kids, and need to be guided into adulthood. Just because they can talk doesn't mean they're growing up.
Occasionally they need to be told to shut up. In fact, in my experience; often.

You know Steph? My grandkids do theirs in the lunch break at school. I reckon we'd all be better off if they had a bit more to do.
And if it were up to me they'd do English grammar on their cellphones for an hour a day too instead of 'texttalk' English.
80% of English kids have no idea how to construct a sentence with real words.

At my sons middle school, they told him he was not allowed to call home because it was considered 'long distance' so we had to buy him a cell phone!
