I am a resident of Edison, NJ. I usually go out with my family on weekends to eat at local restaurants.

The other day I was at an Indian restaurant on Stelton Road - TAWA. The food definitely was good.
But as we were finishing our lunch, I saw a rat come out of the lavatory area and headed straight to the kitchen.
None of the waiters or owners or managers noticed it.

When I brought this to their notice, I was told the following...
"This place being a restaurant, there is a lot of food and since there is food, rats will be OBVIOUSLY found in this vicinity. Its good that no white guy saw it, else it would be a big problem."
I personally never differentiate between whites and others. But this guy means, anyone other than whites will eat food in vicinity of rats? This is pathetic.

After this, when I proceeded to pay my check, I was given a $5 discount gift card which was indirectly meant for me to keep this incident to myself.
I still have the card and I would surely not visit that place again.

I also saw some of their management people and their "head chef" sitting there, but they did not even bother to look into this issue.

And just last week, I also heard complaints from one of my friends family - THEY FOUND A RAT IN THE FOOD SERVED TO THEM. THIS IS THE LIMIT!!!!

I ADVISE NO ONE TO EVEN TRY EATING HERE.

I was there when the rat was pulled out from the matar paneer. The place is still open. I called the cops myself and some other also called the health department. I cant imagine how the place is still open and i see people sitting and eating there when i drive past.

Filthy yucky place.

This is all done to defame the success of TAWA. The person who found the rat had it all planned and even asked for $10000 from the owner to keep this secret.
Shame on people like you to spread rumors like this.

I totally agree with "piscataway resident".I have never seen a rat in tawa before nor have I seen it after. It seems like foul play by many rivals in this area.

i'm from india. though i feel bad about saying this about indian restaurants but i have to admit that IT MAY BE TURE. there is one indian chat(SNACK) house on oak tree road, iselin and i used to go there but when i realized that they never clean/disinfect their restroom, i stopped going there. most of fast food joints in edison/iselin dont maintain enough hygiene.
SAME GOES TO CHINESE RESTAURANTS.

As a former Iselin resident of four decades, I can atest to the fact how filthi those restaurants are. 24 months ago, I moved to Indianapolis. Oddlee, I miss Iselin despite the uglee reputation the town has gotten since the Indian population moved in. It's still home, and home to move back soon.

I've been to this place about five times - three for lunch when I used to work up the street across from the train station and twice with my wife and three pre-schoolers. The people there are incredibly nice and helped us with our kids (without charging them anything for the food, which they ate a lot of). The food was very good - well above average among the ubiquitous Indian buffets in the Middlesex County area and elsewhere (e.g., in Ann Arbor, Michigan where we used to live). There are many more choices of dishes than most places, including lots of salads, lots of main dishes, and more than one dessert. The atmosphere is cheerful and casual (no overblown Indian fanfare) and the place (including the restrooms) seems perfectly clean.
Given all this, even if the rat story is true, I can deal with it.

The management did panic after the rat was pulled out from a patron dish.
But they tried to down play the incident.
They tried to blame the patron for creating a scene.
Tawa should know that there is a class action lawsuit waiting for them.
I have constantly heard the Head Chef abusing his team mates in Indian foul words.
This guy thinks that he is a great chef, but just to let u know he is just a jerk.
