Sheeple From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Sheeple (a portmanteau of "sheep" and "people") is a term of disparagement in which people are likened to sheep, a herd animal. The term is used to describe those who voluntarily acquiesce to a suggestion without critical analysis or research. By doing so, they undermine their own individuality and may willingly give up their rights. Contents [hide] 1 Usage 1.1 Governance 2 See also 3 References 4 External links [edit]Usage The label originated in the United States, possibly referring to John Brunner's novel The Sheep Look Up, and designates people who tend to accept and take statements at face value, especially if it is cited in mainstream media. There is documented print usage of this word as early as 1950, in the form, "We, the Sheeple", in the Emory University Quarterly, v.6-7 1950-1951, page 64.[1] "The Wall Street Journal first reported the label in print in 1984; the reporter heard the word used by the proprietor of an American Opinion bookstore affiliated with the John Birch Society.[2] In this usage, taxpayers were derided for their blind conformity as opposed to those who thought independently.[3] Shortwave radio host Milton William Cooper used the term commonly during his Hour of the Time radio show during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The label had been used by authors of fiction: as a title for Canada's ex-MP Garth Turner's 2009 book, also in numerous other works.[citation needed] The term is also used more broadly to describe any person who the speaker feels is exceedingly conformist. [edit]Governance The term is also used for those who are deemed inordinately tolerant, or welcoming, of government intrusion and regulation. In a column entitled "A Nation of Sheeple," columnist Walter E. Williams writes, "Americans sheepishly accepted all sorts of Transportation Security Administration nonsense. In the name of security, we've allowed fingernail clippers, eyeglass screwdrivers and toy soldiers to be taken from us prior to boarding a plane."[4] [edit]See also Argumentum ad populum Bandwagon effect Brainwashing Conformity Crowd psychology Dumbing down Freethought Group behaviour Groupthink Gullibility Herd behavior Indoctrination Propaganda Psychological manipulation Slacktivism Superficiality [edit]References ^ Emory University Quarterly v.6-7 1950-1951, page 64, By Emory University Published by Emory University., 1950 ^ Bob Davis, "In New Hampshire,'Live Free or Die' Is More Than a Motto," The Wall Street Journal, 1984, quoted online at Word Spy ^ "Word of the Week: Sheeple" at Macmillan Dictionary. ^ "A Nation of Sheeple", Capitalism Magazine, October 19, 2005. Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock has built a large statewide grassroots base of supporters due to his reputation as a true “guardian of the taxpayer.” Guardian, what a joke. This dumb a$$ has not one but two independent audits called for but not by him, going on now. He had 350 million missing and now 300 million missing from the State's funds. Even the little weasel Mitch Daniels is distancing himself from this crook. This is the kind of Tea Party jerks they want you to vote for. NO WAY. |

Mourdock is an imbecile.
In July 2008, Indiana money managers invested about $43 million the secured debt of the wobbly Chrysler for 43 cents on the dollar. It was a deal where the risk was evident due to the discount, but that Mourdock said he thought could pay off, especially since "secured creditors" were typically "first in line" to get value for their investment in the event of a bankruptcy. When Chrysler was restructured in 2009, the funds got a return on their investments of just 29 cents on the dollar. The result: The Indiana State Police Pension Fund lost $147,000 and the Major Moves Construction Fund lost $896,000. President Barack Obama's administration used the fact that many of the banks that were Chrysler's secured creditors were also recipients of loans from the Troubled Asset Relief Program – the bank bailout – to lean on them to go along with the proceedings. Mourdock, though, sued. He hired a New York law firm that the state ultimately paid $2 million to take the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. His effort in the Chrysler bankruptcy was not successful, but the court did rule that its proceedings should not establish a precedent for future bankruptcy cases. (If he were honest, this is what he'd say) Silly Imbecile Mourdock: I spent 2 million of taxpayer dollars in the hopes of elevating the number of Hoosiers dependent upon unemployment in Indiana in attempt to cover up my stupidity. I sure do hope that thar are a lot of naive voters and they will vote for me. Sure I pledged not to waste taxpayer dollars. But when it comes to my ego----philosophy,precepts and promises be damned! |

Stole pensions??? You mean like the Obama administration stole from the GM salary workforce when it became Govt Motors? Instead of taking care of everyone they decided to steal the pensions of the salaried workforce and hand over 100% of it to the union. I see what you mean about stealing pensions. Now run off and try to find a clue! |

I see that a lot of people are denying reality. Maybe they should talk to all of the Delphi workers who lost 100% of their pensions only to see the union keep 100% of theirs. This IS NOT a matter of opinion, but reality unfortunately. Now go bury your head under Obama's sandpile. While you're at it why don't you re-elect the worse president in modern times....Obama. |

How low will the new democrats go? These are the same people that we fought in Vietnam, Korea and the cold war. Their ideas are the same as those that caused the USSR to fold. These ideas has worked so well (sarcasm) for the North Vietnamese, after they killed half of their citizens. It is working so well for that world power we call Cuba. This is the same group that kill female infants in China. Anything for the cause. The cause is a communist government. The real question is how did this happen to the Democratic Party? The once great and loyal party to the citizens of the United States. Now they are against anything American.
