They should look at a Brother J in the 1964 era. I had a encounter of the close kind but was lucky enough to escape. I would bet there were a few other guys that did'nt.

Such a gross abuse to all these students--around the world. I just read elsewhere that there is abuse being uncovered in Parishes in Rome. Alleged, of course, but sources say they are looking seriously at these claims. but they say it is not as widespread there as in US or Ireland. So what? Abuse is abuse.

I was a pianist for the choir at St. anthony's Seminary in Santa Barbara when the pastor sadly, from the lectern, told the parishioners that he was being "transferred" to Los Angeles. He and others in the Franciscan community had been abusing boys for over thirty years!!

And everyone thought Von Handel was "such a nice guy". He had started a boys choir years before and there were all those young boys studying in the seminary. So terrible.

This all has to come to light for closure for those who have been abused. And strong measures taken to prevent it now and in the future.

Is it just me or is there a trend with some of these brothers and priests. Maybe if the church promoted a healthy life style and relationships with women within the leadership, these individuals wouldn’t be involved in what appears to be a trend in this culture. I would argue when the most frequented environment is that of a seminary or all boys school, where only men are present, this doesn't leave many options to experience life in a healthy manner. Speaking only my opinion but I think there is a strong correlation. Thanks for providing the means for productive discussion.

Either stand up and make an accusation...on the record...in public, or shut your noise. Smearing a guy with a post like this does no good at all. If he did something, bring him to justice. If you don't have the guts to stand up now (40+ years later), you look like a punk.

If one thinks that the ability to have sex freely with women is the cure for pedophilia than one needs to take a good abnormal psychology course at their nearest college. Pedophiles hide as married men also and not just as Catholic priests and brothers. The reality is they came into religious life a pedophile it's not that the religious life turned them into one. The fault of the Catholic Church is not recognizing the problem for what it was and is and not dealing with it out in the open. Seminaries are no longer populated with young men who went from Catholic all boy grade schools, to all boy high schools and then to an all male seminary. Many seminaries to stay afloat financially are also training women for ministry roles along with those training for the priesthood. Attempting to simplify a complex sexual deviancy into if these men had more access to women they wouldn't be what they are just doesn't do the problem the justice it deserves.

As I have said before, when people wait this long, its very difficult to prove anything as memories of witnesses have faded and the priests are elderly--not to mention they are suing an entirely different generation from the ones that did the alleged mismanagement. Let's face it--the culpable ones are retired or dead--mostly dead.

Which, yes, makes it look like a money grab, plus more attention for Bob.

An abnormally thoughtful post for a thread of this nature. In any case, the whole knock on the catholic church as a corporate entity was not he acts of the priests themselves, but how the church failed in its duty to protect its flock. So, the issue is not so much pedophilia but rather institutional immorality--more a sin of pride than the flesh.

Having said that, if one is a pedophile who seeks institutional support--consciously or subconsciously, its hard to imagine a better place to thrive and predate than the catholic church in a role involving children prior to the 1970s.

Well spoken, and a very thoughtful response. That is my thoughts as well, they offer what appears to be such a safe haven for these individuals even to this day.

I was wondering how long it would take you to make a fool or yourself again "Part Time Bull **** " -- for your information:
The criminal law in Wisconsin says that if you rape our children and leave, the Statute of Limitations on Criminal Sexual Crimes STOPS tolling. What that means PT, is that when they quietly picked him up and took him out of the Wisconsin christian brother school after 1 teaching year and dropped Raimond Rose on the uninformed family's and children of Cretin -- his Wisconsin sex crimes are still subject to investigation, prosecution and conviction.
Take your confused beliefs and kneel on them -- some of us believe if you rape a child you should be sentenced to a life of breaking rocks.
ps: after they picked him up after his crime spree at Cretin they dropped him on the unsuspecting family's and innocent children of Shanley.-- His crimes there are also under investigation for possible criminal prosecution.
Bob,
Your work is admirable. Courageous.

Men that abuse boys have a marked insidious nature to their crimes.

The Catholics who refuse to see the hideousness of their own leaders have a special kind of brainwashing that's visible when the subject comes up. I call it the "wide-eyed" vapid look.

You bring up the concentric effects of a pedophile who was/is Catholic clergy and they just zone out or make an excuse that not everyone in the Catholic church is like that.

They don't understand that an expereince like that doesn't go away.

Why would anyone want to belong to a club who operates on these clandestine tenets?

The point is that these bas***ds KNEW and they didn't do anything about it. They let it go on and looked the other way. They still hide these criminals.

These are the leaders. The hypocrytical hierarchy right up to the CEO Pope waving his little scepter and blessing the poor outside of the palatial Vatican treasures.

This type of crime should never be subject to the staute of limitations.

Daily Horoscope for December 12

Pisces

Ask someone for their advice and they'll still be talking half an hour later. Unfortunately, even though they're saying a lot, there may not be many pearls of wisdom in their conversation and you may quickly decide that they're just yakking on about whatever has popped into their head, with little or no relevance to what you asked them in the first place. Ho hum!
