I can't tell if Har Har is trolling or really that foolish. I hate that newspapers are having to cutback. Without an adequate number of professional reporters, much that should be news will never see the light of day. There will always be plenty of live breaking news of the latest crime scene or traffic accident, but serious coverage of public affairs, particularly on a local level, is dying. I subscribe to my hometown paper and like reading news online. We need a system of micro payments or monthly electronic subscriptions so people pay for what they read. And those that don't think it is worth it can get their news from talk radio and blogs.

It sad day for Twinkiesville when 100 newspaper jobs are deleted. I wonder how long the STRIB will last? Regardless of how we feel about the Twin Cities newspapers, at least we had news from from two divergent sources that offered a cleared picture of world events etcetera. There is no substitute for the printed page and the hard facts and copy that could be attributable to a credible source. The Internet and cyberspace lacks that credibility. Let's hope the PIONEER PRESS can fill the void. I hate to venture how dismal our lives could be without reading the daily paper and catching the digest of news potpourri.

It is never the fat cats that sit in their plush offices. Why is it you can never look through the haze of your liberal world. The Red Star Tribune decided a long time ago to go the way of the "liberal media outlet", thus losing a large share of their newspaper circulation. Enter the internet as another factor. You see, as a newspaper you are supposed to print an unbiased newspaper, and let your readers decide what is relevant in the articles. It's too bad that the "working stiffs" did not have any say into the crap that their newspaper printed, and maybe they would not have lost their jobs. As for "union workers" they probably did like the UAW and priced themselves out of their own jobs, and did not make the Red Star Tribune newspaper business successful.

Just like the Pioneer Press taking a partisan right turn and offering Politico as its political coverage. Bad move. Of the one hundred jobs eliminated, I am hopeful that Garrison Keilor and Fedwa Wazwaz get their pink slips. One is a mindless egomaniac and the other is an apologist for the group we can say nothing bad about because they are so "sensitive".

The Star Tribune had more than enough opportunity to allow more than just their standard city elite journalists to contribute to the paper. The internet was such a great opportunity for them to change their old fashion ways.

I miss Farley Goes to the Fair. L. K. Hanson did the artwork. Incredible sense of humor. The Trib isn't fun to read any more. I cancelled home delivery because of too many service screw-ups. Now I walk a few blocks to buy the Trib or Pioneer Press (for Zippy the Pinhead) for less money and I get my exercise in. Win-win.

I would add that it applies to the local print media as well. There is so much op-ed attempting to be passed for news that it absolutely makes me sick. I too am sad to see the local print media struggle and agree that it would represent the loss of a source for local news, even if it is blatantly biased. That said, I simply can't bring myself to monetarily support an entity that takes such a huge dump on our right to a free press by using (abusing) it as their own personal bully pulpit.

To that end, I was absolutely flabbergasted by Obama's comments and his ongoing assault of Fox news. Further, I'm not entirely sure he's gotton away with it to the level that it appears. The lack of flap/air time given to it by other media outlets is akin to their boycott of the ACORN issue and by no means is a measure of the publics opinion of Obama's completely inappropriate interference in the news markets. I'm sure there are others like me that are extremely disgusted and upset and will very likely take their grievance to he polls and not just against Obama, but his entire party at every level of government.
