Just like I expected. Debra and Dan Rogers get off scotch-free. At least their quackery has been exposed.

In order to avoid this mess, the parents had to throw their children out of the house? Are you suggesting they should have called the police to come and book the unruly kid into DCF or the jail? Parents are not allowed to discipline their kids AT ALL anymore or they will be prosecuted. I don't agree with exorcism or beating children but my dad took a belt to me on occassion and I turned out fine. He would be in jail today based on current laws. Not often does the prosecutor use good judgement. Many normal families could find themselves facing charges.

There are more things going on in Edgewater than false accusations of exorcisim. What really needs to be exposed is the corruption in the city government with deals being made under the table and lies being told on citizens by city officials. The city of Edgewater needs to have the demons exorcized out of it, starting with the city manager and other officials who launch attacks to discredit citizens and council members. The Rogers' were targeted for slander because there is a lot of dirty dealing going on in Edgewater and the people in power, but not necesarily elected officials, are making money by catering to greedy land developers. This corruption even extends to the county level. The Sentinel could get a real story here if they started digging.

The belt thing is considered to be child abuse. No parent should ever hit a kid with a belt period! I turned out fine too and I never had anyone beat me or beat me with a belt. That is just awful!

As far as this girl - the whole thing is weird. Why was she covered in Oil? Annoiting her? That would be a tiny bit of oil on the farhead, not the entire body. Too weird. I hope the parents straighten out their stuff and the kid gets her life together too.

The girl was eighteen, a little too old for whipping, oiling and D.C.F.

Who is paying her tuition at Stetson?

You are right. The parents should have just kicked her ass out. I would never hit a child. Did you see John Tanners daughter (Lisa Tanner) the former prosecutor of Volusia. She needs to be excorcised.

From what I understand from this case a small drop of oil was placed on the child and since she was being denied the opportunity to hang out with a boyfriend who the parents considered less desirable(drugs?) the girl pitced a "hissy fit" and the oil went everywhere. Didn't you read the part of the article where it said she had been Baker Acted and that was detremined by the police who were called to the scene by her sister? She must have been pitching a Royal Fit. Hormones come in to play here. If my daughter was slipping out to be with a piece of low life trash it would have been more than oil she was covered with. As parents most of us have been there. If the newspapers print both sides we would not be on this blog.

Thanks for the explanation. I did read it and yes I realize she was Baker acted but she is not Baker Acted anymore is she? You are right there are two sides to the story. Sounds like the young lady straightened out her life, good for her. Too bad she does not mend the fences with the parents but then again - who knows....maybe there is more to that story that we don't know, huh? There are two sides right?

Obviously some of these parents here think it is ok to whip your kid with a belt. Additionally they think an eighteen year old is still young enough to whip and oil up. Maybe this girl had enough of their garbage. Sounds like the parents did not like her boyfriend so they did what they did to stop her. Maybe the girl should have moved out and gotten a job. Guess she is doing ok though, she could not have been that bad if she is now at Stetson. The whole story is weird.

It has been my experience that the media presents the side of the story that will attract attention for financial gain. The truth is rarely presented. Facts are slanted toward the side that will result in egregious emotions and comments toward the one side that is designed and designated as that of the perpetrators. Omission of necessary factual information is the means by which this is acomplished.

So the young adult got on with her life, good for her! Is this the same Debra Rogers that suggests that the police wanted to have sex with her daughter and called the Victim's Advocate the Devil's Advocate? Is this the same Debra Rogers that suggested we incorporate the City of Edgewater Police Deptartment with the City of Port Orange Police Department? Maybe the Sentinel needs to attend one of our council meetings, just might find a story there. It's obvious our local newspaper got blind-sided.

Yes the whole story is weird and it got that way thanks to over zealous reporters and a police dept who let them run wild with it.
The girl is in Stetson because her parents enrolled her prior to all of this hoopla over parents being wrongly accused by the media for an exorcisim that never occured. Sold a lot of papers didn't it. There but for the Grace of God go any of us. Be careful of the media.

it is a darn shame that this corrupt town of edgewater chooses to malign who speaks up and or go's against the good old boys, whether it is the city manager, mayor, or police department, Debra Rogers uncovered debts, unanswered disposition of fill/sand, worth $$$, monies put here and there, town in debt over 50 million, and then they choose to slander her and her family, and then have the nerve to do their type of investigation, and I wonder what is with this victim's advocate doing her own thing, does she have many bones and clues in her closet???? was she a problem in her past childhood,,,,, what are her qualifications???? how much money does she make taking in children, what is her psych education background, well guys, you never let the public hear the 911 tape, and do think it over when you decide to slander another family or person in this town, this is not a hitler town, and the truth will always prevail, especially when your motives are satanistic.......and part of the good old boys of deception and pocketing our hard earned taxes for self gain, this will only lead to your destruction.
