There must be more to the story. When the County run Beach Patrol and the poor City of Oak Hill both agree the Sheriff's Dept is no solution to saving money at the cost of service, WHY would the council of Port Orange. Crazy! I means, everyone knows Port Orange has the cream of the cops (jerks most the time I must admit). What amount of saving is worth lowering your standards? Lay some cops off or restructure but why bring in an outside agency. REMEMBER PORT ORANGE "YOU ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!"
On a side note, this is no knock to VCSO. They are great cops and the Sheriff is a top notch top cop. You just can not tell me that VCSO can replace one for one cheaper. Can NOT be done. There will be some level of service effected.

Although I do not live in Port Orange I have told many people that Port Orange has one of the best PD's that I have seen. Not only do they keep down the crime, they can be very helpful to motorist that are broke down in the middle of Dunlawton Ave. like I experienced a few years ago. You folks in Port Orange pay more in taxes than we do here in Edgewater but there is a world of difference in the PD's. Edgewater PD is ok too but Port Orange is the best around.

Deltona has looked into the cost of their own police force vs Volusia county sheriff's office a few years ago. It was way cheaper to use the sheriff's office so that's the way it stands.

Didn't you hear the old mayor is going to replace the present mayor. It's like a ping pong game. He started the mess that is the city i guess he thinks he can straighten it out the second go round.

Stop breaking the traffic laws, and I bet the tickets will stop also.

Not even sure how you can compare your voluntary lack of following traffic laws with crimes against innocent people such as burglary, drugs, theft, etc

City of Port Orange can't afford police? Why did they build a big fancy building? What will they do with old one? Who wants a used cop shop? As for Edgewater,I agree the police here stink.I have seen a little old lady with a walker standing in hot sun while they search her car.Had to move my boys to my rental unit in Ormond to get them out of here.A certain officer H knew their cars and targeted them.No such thing as a ticket in Edgewater, try as many as they can find to write.I got pullud over for a brake light and ended up with 3 tickets that got thrown out of court.
