Disadvantages of beach driving:
1. People get killed.
2. People get injured.
3. Oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid, etc., are leaked onto the sand.
4. Sand is compacted.
5. Car radios blast music through annoying bass woofers.
6. Turtle eggs and other wildlife are disturbed.

Advantages of beach driving:
1. Lazy people do not have to walk.

I don't get it either. I was at the meeting the other day at the Brannon Center. People actually said it's their right to drive on the beach! They don't need more beach parking because they can park on the beach! And they don't want strangers to park on their street! What planet are they living on?

The one person who spoke against it got soundly booed, although the mayor did ask people to let her speak. Lynch mob mentality. I thought we all have the right of freedom of speech but apparently it's just freedom of beach!

Have any of you considered whatsoever any handycapped citizens who would not otherwise be able to visit the beach? The revenue that would be lost from the community? Suddenly the Daytona/NSB beach don't looks so different. So Orlando folks or others may decide not to spend their money here? The businesses that would go under that supply services and products on the beach and even possibly the vets who would lose those businesses from the beach....... You chose to only look at everything as black or white.......... This community and the East Coast of Florida need all the financial help we can get..........

One problem is that those who oppose beach driving dont show up because of the mob mentality. Its really sad that they had to request that the people let her be heard.

I see both sides and dont understand why more non driving beach sections are not an option to those that support beach driving. It seems like a feasable solution. Yes those that approve of beach driving accuse those of us who disapprove of not being flexible.

I would sure like to know where their flexibility is, since they oppose any changes at all.

At last a voice of reason!

I don't like beach driving and I can site a lot of reasons to get rid of it but I do agree that most people want it. So why not just make more non driving beaches close to the center of town? The beaches from Flagler south are really crowded on weekends and the city has approved for 7 story buildings along the stretch from Flagler to 8th Ave, with businesses allowed on the beach side! That's going to put a lot more people on the beaches there and it's going to be a very unsafe, crowded situation. I have said before that any new building on that stretch must be mandated to provide public parking for the beach. It would provide parking that the city does not have to pay for, it would be convenient for non driving beach goers and it would provide instant foot traffic for the businesses coming into those buildings.

Maybe someone will see some reason but as you said people who disagree with the driving crowd get shouted down and belittled. The Observer didn't even mention any opposing comments that were made!

The Observer is a rag, no one reads it, very few buy it. Which is exactly why it goes through publishers as fast as bathrooms go through toilet paper. The paper has gone downhill since George Sample and Jim Jones left.

You would think that someone at that paper would get a clue and stop reporting only one side of the news.

I can remember growing up in NSB just waiting for the day I did not have to lug my board on my bike to the inlet! This is the greatest beach in FL because we can drive on the beach. I think with a few more rules for safety we can come together and make driving on the beach safe.
