I was in the Loula street branch of the C.U of Johnson County which due to the parade will be closed. The employees who work on Saturday, are being sent home, without pay, unless they drive to another branch, good job Johnson County, the country is in a finincal crisis and you think sending people home without pay is okay as long as you get your boring, out of style and date parade. No wonder people like myself and my family and several people have left JO. CO. way to go commissioners, you have just given the people another reason to vote you out of office. Its nice to see you are so concerned about your citizens.

The credit union chose to close - as it has in years past. This is a once a year celebration which has been going on for over 100 years. I'm sure the employees at the credit union know about this in advance and then can make their choice to work at another branch or enjoy the day off. In this day and age of such negativity, please find time to enjoy the little things or at least not say anything if you can't say anything pleasant and positive.

I suppose you are right, maybe next year you can make the choice to forfeit a day of pay for this wonderful celebration, and it is not negatvity, I based my remarks about this subject after talking to the employees working in the credit union at the time, so if you consider the truth to be a negative thing, I guess the truth is negative. And we did go to the old settlers, and according to the majority of the people young and old it was one of the worst turnouts they have had in years, but all in all we had a good time enjoying the small things in life that were present at this celebration.

I just looked at this site for the first time, hoping to catch up with how this years OSD is being planned. I am returning to Olathe where I was raised 30 years ago and attempting to show my kids something I might recognize. I was hoping to see a lot of fun events and higher community expectations, as I kind of remember them to be. I am probably naive expecting things there could have some semblance to past times, at least for this one event. Unfortunately, apathy and negativity is to be expected in this age with our demands for self-centered "rights" and instant gratifications. There is always someone who will feel personally stomped on. Even if some consider it boring or out-of-date (like my kids may feel), I look forward to putting them through it. I appreciate seeing the traditions continue to the best of the commissioner's ability. It is healthy for a community to respect it's past!
