Thinking about moving to Eddyville, wondering about the schools, elementary. How are the teachers?

Lyon county is a tight nit county. DEPENDING on the grade, your child will have lots of work and they are really geared to the "TESTING" and push that hard. The teachers are nice.

The Elementary and Middle Schools are wonderful, The Superintendent is Great. The High School is less than desirable, with less than desirable administration and teachers.

If it is so great then why, when I lived there did I get a letter EVERY year from 2004 to 2007 stating that I had the option to send my children to school elsewhere due to such low test scores? I moved away in late 2007, and I don't believe alot has changed since then.

I went to Lyon County Schools from the 5th grade all the way to graduation. I enjoyed going to school there. Quiet area, good teachers and small classes. I graduated with about 80 students.

lyon county test scores are in the top ten of the state. i recently graduated from lyon county and the teachers are great for the most part. as for the letters being sent "due to low test scores" i believe that is false i have a niece and nephew, one is in elm, one is in high and a letter was never sent home in the mail or with the child that test scores were too low. thats a fraudulent document...if the letter spoken of is "real"

I have never seen one of the letters either. My daughters have gone there all their lives. Yes, the test scores are high. The is public information for you to read.

Lyon County has top test scores. Whoever stated that was not talking about state mandated tests. Possibly that person received letters in the mail about his or her own performance?

Lyon County uses paper plates, and plastic forks in an effort to cut down on the water bill from doing dishes. LOL! Way to go green and teach kids about recycling. This school is such a JOKE, much like the high school principal WAD SQUAD.

just because they use paper plates and plastic forks does not take away from the test scores or anything other part of a childs education. kids throw away real plates, that gets expensive its not for the water bill.

A child's education at Lyon Co? Really? I don't think you should be able to use "education" and "Lyon Co." in the same sentence! I went to school there. The classes are a joke. The teachers don't care, and especially not after Kentucky pased the stupid ass "No child left behind" program. I'm sorry, but if you're stupid you shouldn't be able to just keep going up to the next grade level with your classmates because they don't want you to be humiliated. Well, what happens when that child is a senior and can't even read?! The one thing I DID learn at Lyon County was that it was okay to date your teachers. EXAMPLE: Steven Rudy and Coach Fraliex. I'm glad I finished my education in Calloway County!

Come on, get a clue.

I am a graduate from Lyon Co. and believe you me it is a joke. If you don't have an important last name you are invisible. The ladies who work in the elementary office are a joke. They are rude and can't even smile when they greet you. That is unless you are someone they consider important. They have a handfull of teachers who actually take time with the kids and the rest are just there to gossip and judge. Just look at their yearbooks. You see a ton of snap shots taken of the little rich kids with important mothers and fathers but not the ones that are less fortunate. What the bottom line is with Lyon Co. is appearance. If you can make them look good then you are accepted. If you can give them money then even better. The school is constantly asking for money for this and for that, well where is out school taxes that us working people pay going? And don't get me started on some of board of education members. That is a joke in itself. It consist of people who try to look the part in public and on school grounds but when you see them out they are always talking about getting drunk and partying. Heck even one of the women on the board was drinking at a baseball game (Kids game). And when it comes to bullying they don't care. It's always going on and nothing done about it. All I can say is poor poor kids.

no one is ever going to be completely satisfied with a school. a senior who cant read...thats ridiculous. kids getting passed bc they dont want to be humiliated...stupid that is not how anything works. you need to get your facts straight. all schools have thier faults... but lyon county doesnt lack education. all of your "facts" are stupid. idk about the student and teacher dating thing but as ive said schools have thier faults. schools are all over the news all the time....how many times has lyon been on there for something negative? not often.

Yes there is a letter sent out each year to the parents informing them that Lyon County has not met the required scores and therefore the parents have the right to send their child to another school in their district. It IS NOT individually selected, it is for all the students.

i graduated from lyon co as well and i never recieved the letter you mention amanda, my post was for "Haha" i didnt see your post when i posted idk how but i didnt. anyway if all of what you are saying is true, your statement is completely different than Haha's statemnet, their statement was f*cking stupid. i know that with in the past 5 years lyon co high school has met the required score. im not sure about any other part of the school i dont keep up with that. but the bs about the water bill and a childs education was for Haha. Amanda when you mention the rich kids, i can semi agree ONLY bc i was there once. i am not a rich person and when i was in school which was not long ago if you had the known Last Name you were accepted. if your last name didnt match up to anyone elses no one knew you unless you caused some kind of trouble.

Its just like other small towns. You have the snobs who I like to call "hundred dollar millionaires". They will turn their noses up at anything or anyone they as a clickish group views as inferior. Thats ok. They will have to pay for their actions when the man comes around. I went to Lyon Co. all my life. There are some pretty decent ones there though. Take the good with the bad. Watch where u go and remember where you have been.

I had 1 to graduate from Lyon Co. and I pulled my youngest out to home school them!!! This school system is nothing but a JOKE it's all about who you are, if you have money and if you play a sport!!! Lyon Co school pushes the kids through so they dont have to deal with them in the class room. Then before the kid get to the next grade the teachers sit and gossip about the ones that's so far behind or that has cause trouble in their class room, these teachers need to learn to keep their mouth shut, stay off their cell phones and off the computers on our DIME!!!!

I'm guessing you graduated from Lyon county because you are stupid. I never said anything in my post was a FACT. As far as Lyon County not being on the news... well that is easy. Lyon County School System is meaningless. A small piss-ant school that no one gives a shit about. How it is still functioning is beyond my comprehension level.

its above your comprehension level because you are ignorant. idk where you have gathered your info from but its ridiculous. idc if you went to lyon or not things change all the time everyday. teachers change, the board changes and when there is an issue worth while its discussed. i will a last name means a lot which is bs but its true..but that also goes hand in hand with it being a small town. when i say news...it doesnt have to be tv...there are other news sources...there are more positive things about lyon than negative. its better to let ppl think ur stupid than open your mouth and prove it.
