You can;t give a future unles you review the past sixty years of the cities history. What kind of a citizen was there, what was the economy like, who really cared about the future of ECORSE? THE CITIZENS VOTED IN THEIR REPRESENTAIVES AND NOW YOU ARE SEEING THE RESULTS! To be fair you must take a positive approach in any suggested corrective actions taken to solving the problems that are existant. It is going to take a strong willed and honest people, willing to comunicate openly with each other and to all interest citizens. I believe that with the proper leadership that Ecorse could become one of the all American cities in the U.S.A. Some may rember that I was a candidate for the city council and ran my campaign on a "everything in black and white" No promises that I couldn'd keep. I was defeated in the general election, I am seventy nine years young now and would come to Ecorse(ITS IN MY BLOOD)I know it can be done and would welcome the chance to participate !! It will take 100 percent honesty, open minded ,total envolvement,It can be done! I grew up there and i remember the city the the way it was then --all of it. Let me know what is going on and any ideas you may have. Cincerly yours Gene Labadie son of Francis A. Labadie

Great things are happening. Ms. Parker has been collaborating with Wayne Metro to fix up some of the city owned houses. Also the high school will fix 4 city owned homes. I am not sure if they will be sold or what will happen with them when they are completed, but one thing is certain: someone will be living in them. That's all I know for now.

They are cleaning up the streets and the abandoned properties. Ms. Parker is trying to get some businesses into town. River Rouge is working on a greenway project that may eventually include Ecorse.

There is a meeting tomorrow night, Thursday the 25th of Aug at the High School. Residents are encouraged to come. There will be dinner served at 6pm, and a raffle for prizes. Come to the meeting and see what is happening and what you can do to help.

I RESPECT EVERY COMMENT I READ. I ENJOY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES OF THE SAME PROBLEM! IT'S INTERESTING THAT EVERYONE RECOGNIZES THE SAME PROBLEMS. THAT'S NOT A NEW DISSCUSION. I LOVE ECORSE. I WAS BORN IN 1932 AND GREW UP THERE. MY FAMILY WERE THE FIRST SETTLERS THERE.MY GRANDFATHER DONATED PROPERTY FOR THE FIRST CITY HALL AND FIRE DEPARTMENT. HE ALSO DONATED LAND FOR SCHOOL NUMBER ONE. I WENT TO SCHOOL THERE FOR THREE YEARS.(NO NOT ALL THREE YEARS IN THE SAME GRADE !) MY FATHER WAS A MATH TEACHER AT THE "OLD" HIGH SCHOOL. YOU REMEMBER ALGEBRA,GEOMETRY,CALCULUS.ETC, HE WAS ALSO A CITY COUNCILMAN FOR TWENTY ONE YEARS. HE PASSED AWAY IN 1957 OF VIRAL PNUEMONIA. I HAVE DEEP ROOTS THERE AND YOU CAN SENSE MY LOYALTY AND LOVE FOR A CITY THAT WITH PROPER FOCUS AND HONEST DIRECTION COULD BECOME A VERY PROSPEROUS, HOMOGENOUS,AND PERHAPS THE GREAT ALL AMERICAN CITY. IT WILL TAKE CONCERTED EFFORTS BY VERY ENERGETIC,HONEST,ETHICAL,CITIZ ENS WHO ARE WILLING TO SPEND TIME AND EFFORT SO THAT THEIR IDEAS WILL REACH FRUITION . IF YOU ARE THOSE KIND OF CITIZENS,COUNT ME IN! SINCERLY SON OF A FOUNDING FAMILY.

Wish I could get involved! Maybe long distance since I'm several states away. A donation fund started by a past or present resident would be an idea. Making sure they're reputable would be first and foremost. The high school admin. or a proven dedicated business owner could be designated per residential vote. I think former Ecorse residents would be willing to donate as well as offer solutions to the many problems/roadblocks Ecorse has encountered. Nothing would make most of us happier than to see the rebuilding of Ecorse ! As a member of the Ecorse Fan Club, I would be first in line.

I wish you could be here too! The best thing you can do right now, if you know anyone that is still in Ecorse: Tell them about the next meeting at St. Francis on the 22nd of Sept. at 6pm. The more people we have the better it can be. There was 101 residents at the last meeting, hoping this one will bring in at least double that. Many residents have wonderful ideas. We have a lot of talent here, and it needs to be utilized. Ty Atl Girl. Have a terrific weekend.
