Hey Rueben, I don't know anything about David's services but the NFL has his last name spelled Pureifory. For those that may remember David, he was a graduate of Ecorse High in 1968. An All State football player and shot put thrower for the track team. He went to Eastern Michigan University on a football scholarship and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1972. He was a 6' 1", 260 lbs., Defensive End. He play in the NFL for 12 years, 6 seasons with Green Bay, 1 with the Bengals a 5 with the Detroit Lions. He passed away last Wednesday from pancreatic cancer. May God rest his soul.

My prayers and condolences to the Purifoy family. Big Dave was a local hero to many of the youngsters that traveled each Friday to Red Raider stadium to see Dave play ball. Jim Bibbs would bring several of his elementary students to the big event and give us a glimpse of what we could be if we worked hard academically and athletically. Dave and the 1968 Red Raiders were an inspiration to all. Dave was a frequent substitute teacher during his off season at EHS. We we glad to have his attention and encouragement. Just great memories of David Purifoy.

Both Mr. Purifoy and Mr. Bibbs were wonderful mentors to many Ecorse kids.

Hi Carol, I was able to get hold of Karen, went to services, Harry T, Ted E and a few other 68 classmates were there.. I was touched as I walked in the chaple, of all the pictures that were displayed, they had a picture of me and dave, Iwas was wearing my marine dress blue uniform and Dave was in a tux, we were at a Marine Corps Ball. I was so sorry to find out about Dave's passing. He was my roommate at summer camp in Green Bay in 1972. I received a brain concussion, went on injured waivers for a year and never returned to football.
I was doing a google search to find him. He was a an excellent and determined player and a very good person.
My condolences,
Mike

I will always remember David (aka Kitchy-Koo) as a gentle giant. As a child, he would walk by our house and stop to take my bike up from the basement as it was too heavy for me. He had a nickname for everyone and when I entered Ecorse High School, as a freshman, he gave me mine. From the opposite end of a long hallway, he shout, " Hey CHUB-BAY!!!! I was mortified but, I knew it was all in fun. He loved kids and I was a kid to him. Always loved my Kitchy-Koo, proud of his accomplishments to. R.I.P. my big friend!!!!!
