@mr.c. i wish you would rethink not taking charges out on them since you have proof. they may not be important and respect you, but you are important and you deserve your money. they stole from you. they are worthless but you are not. we need people to stand up and shout it out. your kids or grand kids might work there one day and they will do the same thing to them.

I've been working just a couple months, but I already see a pattern to verify so much that has been stated here, the bad, the good, and the ugly. As a single mom, we take what jobs when we can. After being laid off from a major company to "the economy," we do what we must. As for the hours that you get, no family can make it on $150/wk after taxes. Also, the amount of work needed to set the store to speck is unreasonable, and impossible. 100% recovery isn't possible when there is only two on the floor at close, and hourly recovery has not been maintained by the previous shift. I agree though with previous comments that alot depends on your DM and the crew you have. Our store is still a little out of corporate structure with 2 assistant managers. Wonder how thats gonna work out.... Needless to say, I go there because I like retail, and have no desire to let down the customers, and community that depend on the products we provide. I also would like to say the that current policy and procedures that DG has in place, if truly followed, would leave them penniless, no customers, and certainly no employees. In closing, to all of you that feel screwed over, I hope you go on to find a more enjoyable and fruitful job, Obamacare is making that harder, and also to those of you, like me, find something to hold on to at the store, the checks aren't gonna keep you there, it has to go deeper than that. Take care.

Well here we go again!! Another wonderful decision in the hands of that piece of shit company. I filed for unemployment of which I was denied and the company that they hire to handle their dirty work was not even on call but still denied me. So I appealed and had a law judge discuss the case with me and again company not all call and verdict once again denied. Now my next move is to take it in front of board of reviews. I talked to legal aid and they said they don't handle these type of cases. Imagine that! Don't know who is supposed to help an unemployed out of money person that has worked for this POS company for over 20 years?? I'm sure you could get a lawyer and fight it but who has money to do that when they stripped you from all that you worked for over half your like and dedicated all your hard work and self to this company. Just trying to get what I think is owed to me just to be shot down once again. Need a little help on this situation and advice. I need to once again appeal this decision would like a little knowledge and upperhand on this situation. Would greatly appreciate any and all advice that anybody willing to give!! So tried of fighting with this company and their low-life tactics and how they treat the former employees and also present ones. Widowed and unemployed and fighting for what I feel they owe me after all the years I have given to them.

In Michigan if they fail to show up for the hearing for unemployment they lose and you win. Have you tried a Unfair termination attorney? They did not show up for my hearing and I got unemployment, after I got it is when they started to mess with me by sending in false claims I had been working for a Pharmacy company in another state while collecting unemployment, they did this 3 times, finally my attorney for workmans comp sent them, DG and their attorney a letter demanding them to stop or face other leagal action. After that they stopped. They will do anything they can to keep you from collecting anything. Stay strong and on their butts. Contact Dave Jamieson with the Huffington Post. He's doing a story on these tactics they use, he may have some Ideas for you. Good Luck!

The DGM in Piedmont Alabama is a nice store, It is one of them new Market stores and the employees that came from the old store are shady and rude. Smile to your face and smirk when you turn your head. They are constantly gossiping around the town about the new employees and telling DG business. There has been rumors on how they are going to set up the new manager of the new DG Market store just because the old manager of the old store didn't get the position as she had thought. So her old so trusted crew from old store all worked together and set the new manager up and now he's gone. They are going around town bragging about it. I have no affiliation with the old store nor te new store nor any of the people I live in a small town and heard this story from several different people. It just turns my stomach to think people are like that! Could you imagine somebody doing that to you. I will tell you what the next time that one brown hair girl that used to work at the old store, says one more rude thing to me or anyone in my family, she going wish she never opened her mouth!!! The way the post sounds on this site, DG doesn't care how their employees treat customers or other employees they work with!

Hi I was fired on my third [email protected] general. The store manager said my drawer cam up 40$ short. On my first day I worked at two stores because I only had 4 hours at the store I was hired so I decided to make it an 8hour day so I went to another store The manager at the second store worked me off the clock and I didn't have my own cash drawer this is my first day now. So anyway they said that that drawer came up 20$ short. How can I be held accountable for the drawer if it didn't have my numbers to start? Next the day that the 40$ got missing the assistant manager was not doing her manager duties she pretented she was recovering the whole day while she talked on the phone. It was just me and her from 2pm to 10pm an this is my second day. I remember handing the manager two 20$ bills for change it was so busy and I was trying to get the line dwn so I didn't pay attention to when she brought back the change. Its ironic that I had given her two 20$ bills and my drawer comes up short. So moving on when the store manager terminated me he didn't even tell me that he passed me papers and asked me to sign this then when I noticed it was the register slips from 3 4 days ago that should had been signed then the write up so when I noticed I refused to sign the write up then asked him to retract my signitures from the receipts I had just signed. moving along I called resolution and complained that I was wrongfully terminated. Seems as if I am being avoided no one will return my calls and tell me what the cameras caught and what were the grounds for my termination? NO replys it seems as if they are trying to avoid a lawsuit of defamation of character and some other stuff. Please tell me how does play out in your point of view.

I've worked for this company for over a year, my health has deteriorated and I'm having lots of issues at home with my elder mother, and also taking care of my teenage son. When I needed to take a day off, I get a guilt trip about how they need me. Or how they don't have anyone to cover the shift. NOW, I am working in a store where there is NO AC, and the temperatures reach 90-95 in the store. Our customers are so upset that they are making us work and throw freight that they are calling the Customer care number and even my DM/RM. Do they care? No, I came home last night with a raging migraine, unable to cook dinner for my kid. DO THEY CARE....FUCK NO THEY DON'T. I hope they fire me at this point, because I can't keep on doing this. I'm currently looking for another job. I constantly get text messages from my boss after she has already left the store asking me what I have done, and making it out like I'm doing nothing. So, I love working in the heat and feeling like I am about to pass out. I'm a single mom trying to support my kid. But what good will I be if I am laid up in a hospital due to a heat stroke.
To answer ConcernDG, your SM should close 1 to 2 nights out of the week. Usually the day before T+1, that way the stockroom is ready.
This company doesn't honestly care about it's employee, the bottomline is for their money they are bringing in. It's BULLSHIT.....I'm VERY frustrated.

Has anyone went thru a 'Fasilatation ' hearing? If so how did it go? DG's attorney suggested this and at first my judge refused it and my attorney spoke with her and she finally agreed. My attorney said it is odd that DG's Attorney asked for this that the defence hardly ever wants one. I am hoping that is good news.It is next Tuesday.

@dawn. Facilitation is an informal procedure to try and settle the case. You and your attorney will be there in person, along with the opposing attorney and either the defendant or the insurance adjuster, or both.
they are hoping to sette with you before going before the judge and court. good luck.

We are going before a Judge, another Judge not the one we would or will have if we got to trail. However , our Judge had to agree to this. This judge will hear both sides and look at the eveidence and come up with a settlement he feels is a good amount. Both partys can agree or one or the other or both can disagree, if a disagreement comes, mwe set a trial date at that time.

I came across your forum by accident as I heard DG was on the worse company to work for list... no shock there so doing a Google search tada, found ya'll. First off, I work for DG in Texas. Reading these stories has brefeenreshing as we are constantly berated to get everything done.. stocking, recovery, cleaning details, plantograms, etc if not there were threats. Our store is in rural area that can get a great deal of customers but in to weeks we will two lead associates one vying for the ASM position as the current one gave her 2 week notice then two cashiers who one has been labeled a lunatic. We've lost some good people but like everything ya'll have said.. they left as they had no backup from higher ups. Instead of encouragement it negative feedback only. As for looking for another job' been doing that since January. I HAVE worked for other major corporations and was treated like a person not a grunt and I have a BA!

To Brokentired: although I couldn't afford it I didn't work for a week b/c our a/c went out in our store which the building is four years old. Two other stores had outages too within my district. Makes me wonder if they go out on accident wink wink (or not). I suffer from asthma and returned to work wondering if I'd be fired but no too short-handed so still there. *on my other post that's **been refreshing *DG complains but never offer a solution or simple short cuts

as a former sm i can tell you how to get your air conditioning fixed. give corporate phone number to every customers who thinks it is too hot in there for employees and customers. tell them to call and complain. do not let up until they get someone out. i did this and within two days they had someone out there and got it fixed. our was 12 years old. the hvac guy got one running the same day he came but had to order a motor for another one. i had customers who was not going to come back until the air was fixed and i had then call corporate, i also had to damage out all melted candy. woo hoo got their butts in gear real fast when they saw thier profits going down the drain. thats the only way you can hurt them is by showing them that money is going out of thier pockets.

I recently quit dollar general for another job. I didn't give a notice. Now I'm hearing from other employees that the manager and DM is saying that I had someone coming in the store stealing. Really. Dollar general want to work you like a dog. I was coming in on my off days, or coming in 3 and 4 hours early, or working all day because somebody called in.
There was never a bad thing said about me, but now since I have quit, I'm a theft. No you are mad because I quit without a notice because I got tired of the same old mess. Dollar General never tell its employees thanks for anything.

It depends on the DM. Mine only required 1 night, lol, but we were there sometimes 10 to 12 hours a day anyhow.
