I have worked for Dollar General for almost two years. I Will graduate in March with a Associates degree in Business Management and Accounting, I have seen men move up to assistant managers with no education before me. I get my list of work done sometimes two pages, and have never missed a day I also request only my classes off. I was also told I should be demoted from a key holder back to a cashier because I am going to school. I can't work monday-thursday until 3:30 and can work all day friday-Sunday how fair is that. One of the men that stepped over me with less training time took an extendd absense though.

As A store manager of DG myself i find it degrading to hear other managers degrade the very company that believes enough in us to provide us an opportunity to better ourselves. i have been with the company almost three years and although i know its stressfull and time consuming its a fine job and i personally feel that its not the companies fault other managers haven't mastered the skill of delegating their responsibilities. If managed correctly, their payed well for the amount of work they do. its all about enjoying what you do and teamwork.

I have been working for dollar general for some time now and it seems to me there are two types of employees (managers included) the ones that treat you ok for the first little bit and then throw you to the side the first sign of issues. The issues of course have nothing to do with the job, but are effecting your job somewhat. Once things finally straighten up it seems like the harder you try the less you are noticed. People let other people treat you deferently and if you say something then it is YOUR JOB that is in jeopardy. They seem to see that they are doing nothing wrong. When you start before someone bust your a** to do what you are supposed to and they get promoted before you because their older, or they've known the manager longer, or they kiss the managers bottom more then you. Why is this possible. Managers should be and uphold themselves as managers and not let their personal lives override their duties of the store. Furthermore, you should be able to talk to your manager as if they will see every problem and attempt to fix it, if it has to do with the store or the employees.

THE ONLY THING I HAVE TO SAY AND I HAVE WORKED FOR DG FOR 5 YEARS IN 8 DIFFERENT STORES IN 2 DIFFERENT STATES AND SINCE THE HAVE GONE TO EZ STORE I HAVE TO HANDLE THE MERCHANDISE MORE NOW THEN I DID BEFORE AND WITH LESS HOURS. NO MANGER OR D MANGER OR R MANGER SEES THE PROBLEM WHAT ARE THEY BLIND OR DO THEY THINK I CAN WORK HARDER FOR LESS?

I THINK THAT THEY TREAT THERE MANAGERS THE SAME WAY THEY TREAT ALL THERE STORE EMPLOYEES.THEY WANT THERE MANAGERS TO WORK AS MANY HOURS AS THEY CAN GET IN A WEEK AND THEY WANT TO CUT THE OTHER EMPLOYEES DOWN 10 OR 15 HOURS A WEEK.

I am new to the forum having just stumbled across it and just felt the need to say, I am a cashier at a Harlan Kentucky store(0073) and I am very proud and happy with my job. I was shocked to read the things going on at other stores. I have a great manager who is very devoted to our store and I consider her a friend and we have a very close crew, but there is no doubt in my mind if she came in and caught us treating our customers like I have read on here, she would fire us on the spot.We have had countless people comment on how nice and clean our store is.We all take pride in our store and how we treat our customers.

I have worked for a major retailer and I know work for dg and have for a while now. My job is ok though. I am expected to run a store on few hours and have an unglodly amount of work to to do but you know what? Its no different than the retailer I worked for and they are much much bigger than dg.

I agree with you 100%. I have worked for DG 4 years. My manager now was my asst.manager at another store we worked at together. I was moved to a diff. store b/c our dm fired the whole management team. I moved up from 3rd key to asst. I loved working woth my asst. from the other store so I begged and pleaded for my dm to make my old asst. form other store my new manager. She did and everything was good until she went to school and when she came back it was like a whole diff person. The position got to her head.
We used to never have the problems we have now. Our 3rd key is part of the problem I think to though.
When I have a problem with the 3rd key I talk to my manager and nothing gets done about it. I have to work extra hard to get things done b/c the 3rd key does NOTHING, and the manager assumes that it was me who was the lazy one. My dm is just as bad two faced.

I THINK THAT IS GREAT. BUT NOT ALL STORES ARE RAN WELL. NOT ALL MANAGERS ARE GOOD. I HAD A VERY GOOD ONE. THEN THE NEXT WAS TERRIBLE. I HOPE THEY DON'T END UP DOING YOU WRONG LIKE THEY DID ME AFTER SEVERAL YEARS

WHY DOES IT SEEM THAT ALL THE STORES IN KENTUCKY SEEM TO HAVE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES? MAYBE TENNESSEE NEEDS SOME LESSONS FROM THEM
