You need to be careful where you move to because some people live only 1.2 minutes away from Crab Orchard Elementary and they are STILL not in the school district! I have also heard from ALOT of people in that area that have children that go there that the principle is a REAL piece of work. Now, if you want to send your child to a GREAT school with super nice teachers and a GREAT principle that cares about the children and not themselves, you should move close to the Soak Creek Elementary School. It is a small country school where the kids get more attention and time from the whole faculty!

Things definitely change. Crab Orchard used to be a great school but the principle is a real witch. My child went to Crab Orchard and I switched his school this year because I hated dealing with the staff there. Some of the teachers are great, but for the most part, it isn't worth going to. I also know for a fact that they are extremely inconsiderate of some families with sick children. There is a child from that school that is out this year due to an illness and the school hasn't been helpful at all. The principle basically told the family that they need to deal with his education elsewhere because it wasn't her responsiblitly.

My son goes there now. He started there last year and I thought maybe it was just the teacher. Before he went there, he was on the Honor Roll (for the first time) then all of a sudden, he was being written up for an itch it seemed! I have dealt with many different school districts in 4 states. And I have to say, this school probably takes the cake on not giving a crap about the kids. My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and I asked his teacher (which cracks me up that someone mentions a child that has been out almost all year) because my son's teacher has been out since about the 2nd week of school! So I guess teacher's can do it but kids can't be sick?? Anyhow, I ask the sub to let me know if the meds seem to be helping him focus more..no reply..I asked for a conference...no reply..He has 3 D's and 2 F's but yet I have not been called in to discuss this? Any other school would be concerned..So my next resort is to one call the school board and then pull him out until either we move out of this school district or until he gets to IMS. At least I know I care about my son's progress, they however do not..But they do however care if you don't sign something or forget! I have to sign not one thing but TWO every night..And they don't nitpick over school work mostly if you drop a pencil on the floor!

My childern go to COE. My daughter make straight A's, her teachers have been great. They do have very high expectations for the students. They are by far one of the better elementary schools in Raleigh county.

I'm sorry "WRONG" but just because your daughter makes straight A's doesn't mean that COE is one of the better schools in the area. You could probably send your daughter to any school in the area and she could make good grades because she is smart. I think people give COE way too much credit. All children don't learn on the same level and COE only works with the children that are already straight A students, they have no tolerance for children who make less than A's. Their solution is to stick kids in a title one class or special education because they don't read on the same level as another child instead of actually teaching the child that isn't getting it. I remember when teachers actually worked with children who were struggling and I have to say that I struggled more getting a meeting with a teacher at COE to discuss my child's progress than anything else. COE isn't for all children, especially if they aren't straight A students prior to attending there.

Next year I have a just turn five year old that will be going to COE and we will see how they do with her. She is a very outgoing, next stays on one thing very long. You have to keep her busy, if you don't she gets into everything. After reading these I wonder how she will do. Who would you recommend for K.

I can tell you that if your child doesn't stay at one thing for very long they will automatically recommend you to get your child tested for ADHD. They recommend it to everyone up there. I personally think that if these teachers would try to keep the kids interested in what they are teaching then the kids wouldn't lose interest so easily.

My children are 3rd generation COE students. 2 have disabilities. I have NEVER had a problem with COE. In fact, the principal has taken an extreme interest in seeing to my children's education. They temporarily attended other schools in 2 other counties and 1 of my children had to attend Stanaford for 3 years because of their autism program and I was RELIEVED to get them back to COE. When my oldest began middle school her teachers made every effort to prepare her. I have no doubt that my children are well prepared and educated at COE. And if I have to sign 2 papers a night, well, I doubt it will break my hand. All of you obviously are intolerant people. I commend COE and would highly recommend it to anyone.

My children won't be going to C.O.E. There were a few teachers who were wonderful, but Ms.Cullop and Ms.Becket were horrible. Their form of punishment was getting both classes together and bringing the "problem child" infront and embarassing them. They pulled one boy out and told him that his arm pits stunk and he needed to wear deoderant. They favored the children from the wealthier homes. Actually that happened a lot in that school. I had a friend who was significantly overweight and they brought both classes together to tell them that he was at a "fat camp" whatever the point in that was, I dunno? That year I would get sick to my stomach and break out in hives just because of my nerves. My children will be going to a small private school instead of that place.

I'm glad they make kids wear deodorant. Stinky kids make stinky adults. I hate smelling someone with B.O.

No my parents went and talked to them, it didn't do any good though. Most of the staff all live in the same community and go to the same church, and are in the same groups. They "worked together" Most of the children they "bullied" had parents who either didn't care or didn't know what to do. They made mine and many more children's lives hell. My husband went to school there as well and when we see them in public we avoid them at all costs. My best friends life was totally torn apart because of them. Because of his weight they called cps and he was put in the care of his dad who was never in his life and although he was losing weight when he lived with his mom, he gained a lot more living with his dad. There was a lot that went on in that classroom that shouldn't have. Some people really shouldn't teach.

crab orchard school is the pits of hell. its ran like a concentration camp. if you're a school suck your galky kids get to be cheerleaders, or play basketball, or get special treatment. children are not even allowed to speak in the lunch room or any time while at school. homework is every night and two to three hours. if you cant do their mad minute you dont get any recess. they say recess is not required. most children and parents are traumitized by this institution. they push the kids like prisoners so they can get a pat on the back and get their praise for being the westest kings.
