"Saturday when he sprayed in the itched on his apartment." Hey editor, what the f is an "itched"?

I agree. Yet another case of authors and editors mindlessly depending on the spell-check, regardless of whether or not the resulting output actually makes sense. If I had to guess, I'd say someone meant to write "...when he sprayed in the KITCHEN OF his apartment." How much do these people get paid? Maybe they should invest in some READING lessons.

Only the finest editing at NBC10, my hunch is it was supposed to KITCHEN.

And another thing:
"The blast blew out windows, started a fire that deserted most of the apartment and caused damage in the apartment above." It's DESTROYED, not "deserted" you drone!
Losing my faith in our education system, one writer at a time...

Too funny. I was wondering the same thing, thought it was some 'lingo' for which I was unfamiliar. Like to know how much he sprayed and if it was by a gas stove that was on. Pretty bizarre.

"Police said Irias Vidal Maceda sparked the explosion around 8 a.m. Saturday when he sprayed in the itched on his apartment."
Itched? In English please.

Ya think maybe readers might want to know what the HELL he was spraying that could have sparked a blaze? Did ya forget to ask? DOH Or more likely you picked this up off the AP wire - great reporting there! I think NBC could easily outsource that kind of reporting to INDIA or MEXICO.

Maybe if the guy could read English he'd have followed the instructions & warnings on the can.

For goodness sake, hire and editor who can read, I mean where exactly in an apartment would I find the "itched"? And what do you mean "a fire that deserted the apartment". Is this an exercise in surreal writing?

Maybe they DID outsource it, that's why the English is so atrocious!

Damn, I can be a NBC editor and provide a more in-depth report than this.
The article doesn't even mention the name of the bug spray that caused the explosion...sheesh.

Hmm wrote: Pitiful writing. This would get a huge red F even at an elementary level. They still grade writing these days? I thought that was given up long ago so as not to harm the psyches of the students.

I read this yesterday...and read all the comments. What amazes me is that the story STILL reads this way! I would think by now someone would have said hey, look at this crap let's fix it. I would have like more info...like did he spray it on an open flame to create this explosion or what. Prior to reading this I had just sprayed bug spray outside the house and in the basement!!!
