Funtimes Going Going Gone

This Vitale guy wants to stop kids from playing in the street. No hockey, no basketball, I guess no frisbee to bounce of the street, no playing catch with a baseball, no anything. Where's is it going to end with this person? He must of had a lonely childhood with no one to play with to go after these things. This is where his priorities lie.

He reminds me of the kid that got away with everything. Then turned into a cop and busted everyone for the same thing he did as a kid.

A notice from his past.

I am tired of someone coming before City Council and complaining about the blight in the city when he has blighted the city himself. As a former chairperson of the SPEC committee this person KNOWS what the rules are and thought they did not apply to him.

What I am writing here is “PUBLIC RECORD” so find out the truth yourself if you do not believe me.

In August 2008 someone paid $183.77 for the city to cut their lawn after complaints were received.

In December 2008 the court found the same person GUILTY of property maintenance code violations.

No visible license plate was displayed on a vehicle and this vehicle was parked on gravel.

The name behind these code violations is the chief complainer, former SPEC chairperson...

If council spends any time on this at all, shame on them. There are laws in place already to handle obstructing traffic. But lets not take away kids having fun in the process.

Get a life. The way people drive these days, oh please. There's nothing wrong with kids playing catch in the street or frisbee. These council members run on having less government and what do they do, create more rules for us to follow.

As long as I can carry my proud signs and help more SCS residents become vegan, I'm good.

Some of my SCS audience participation brothers could really benifit from the lifestyle change (looking at you Joe B!) ;)

It was illegal when your friend was doing it. I don't think another law would have stopped your friend.

this is all nonsense. there is already laws on the books in this city that handle this issue. you can't block or obstruct traffic in public streets. why does vitale make a big deal out of something so small and want to waste everyones time. tell the people to call the cops if there is an issue. kids will be kids and yes sometimes they play on residental streets where the speed limit is 25. case closed council. now move on to more important things.

I like to watch the young boys playing their sports games in the street by my house, especially when one team takes off shirts. Yum! Even better than spending a summer day at the fishin' hole, or petting the geese!

forget any laws. what part of a dangerous act dont you get? you could make it legal to do it or make it a federal offense. its dangerous, needless and stupid to let your kids play in the street. speed limit is 25? so everyone drives 25 on side streets. you must living in fantasy land. there have been posts of calling their streets a drag strip. let your kids play in the street, and pray that grandpa who should be taking the bus, but still thinks he can drive see them. BTW its still illegal to play in the street.

I can't disagree with what you're saying. However, where do kids ride their bikes on SCS streets that don't have sidewalks? Like most homeowners I'm reguired to have a sidewalk in front of my home and have to keep it clear of snow and pay for it's repair when necessary. It's there for people to walk on and kid's to play and ride their bikes on. But on certain streets in SCS the residents don't want a sidewalk and are not required to have one. So on those streets the kids have no other choice than to ride in the street. Even if they want to go and play in a park, they have to ride their bike in the street to get there.

Bike riding IMO is not playing in the street. You are travelling and looking (most of the time) in the same direction hopefully with a helmet on, whereas playing ball has you looking in different directions and really not paying attention to your surroundings. I am glad I have no kids playing in the street. After watching my friend killed in front of me, this topic reminds me of a very horrible picture that will be emblazoned in my mind forever. Yes this did occur in SCS.

Here is the councilman you voted to represent our city. What a disgusting pig. This guy has no business on council.

laws and signs is what vitale likes. he ran on less government and now wants more laws. next he will outlaw more than two kids walking down a sidewalk.

You might want to rethink Vitale's logic behind this. Drive through Harper Woods and Eastpointe and see the basketball nets up in the streets. Kids walking down the middle of the street. Try to get them to move. Detroit has long past moved beyond 8 mile. Many of use moved here to get away from the blight that has hit these once fine cities. SCS needs to find away to stop this without bringing in Rev. Jackson and Sharpton here.

Read between the lines.
