BULLETIN Hostage situation in Trappe; elementary school not affected but in lockdown as precaution
Published: Friday, June 6, 2008 10:37 AM CDT
TRAPPE There is a reported hostage situation in the Trappe area of Talbot County. White Marsh Elementary is not involved but is in lockdown since it is within several miles of scene.
State police and its hostage team are heading to a home on Tarbutton Mill Road where an apparent hostage situation is occurring following a report of a shooting at 10:25 a.m., according to unconfirmed police reports.
White Marsh Elementary School, which is located on Lover's Lane and a couple miles from the hostage scene, is on lock down.
Old Trappe Road, Almshouse Road and portions of Route 50 are closed to traffic.
This came from my wife who teaches in talbot county

Time was when law enforcement could secure a crime scene without involving an area the size of a nuclear blast zone. Now they sure love to throw their authority around. Just stop trying to protect me from the remotest of possibilities and intrude on my life to the smallest degree necessary.

Thanks for the tips on the closure. Would have been nice if the Sun would have said that.

The house is located right on rt 50 and that's why the closed area is so large. and there have been shots fired. You worry about your side of the bridge and we will worry about ours. Sorry. I guess you put up with it all the time.

The reason the area that is closed off is so large is it gives the police the ability to detour traffic onto suitable routes. Of course they could block traffic 1 mile from the scene but then those cars would just sit there, instead they have viable detours and traffic continues to flow, albeit at a much slower pace. I usually appreciate a little libertarianism, but not in this case.

As punishment, the looney with the gun should have to pay for everyone's hotel rooms at the beach who are inconvenienced by his erratic behavior.

My sister in law is coming to the beach to visit me and she was stuck in traffic. She said it was moving very slow on 404 were all the beach traffic was detoured. She said she only moved 3 miles in a half and hour.
