NY woman said to die after getting West Nile

There are 1 comment on the The Associated Press story from Sep 27, 2008, titled NY woman said to die after getting West Nile . In it, The Associated Press reports that:

A 79-year-old woman has died in suburban New York after contracting the West Nile virus.

Officials say Eastchester resident Barbara Zuberec was diagnosed with the mosquito-born virus after she died. The official cause of death was a pulmonary thromboembolism, which may have been caused by the virus. The elderly are acutely vulnerable to complications stemming from the infection.

Health officials found no sign of mosquito breeding near Zuberec's home.

Zuberec is the first person identified with the virus this year in Westchester County, in the suburbs north of New York City.

First and foremost, my deepest sympathy to the family especially her husband, Joseph. I am a mother of 3 daughters under the age of 4 and cannot stand by another minute while the County does nothing to spray for mosquitoes. At first, the Dept of Health spokesperson said there was no plan to spray the county because they hadn't had any human cases of West Nile. Tragically, now we have a case of a West Nile Casualty. Someone died and still it seems from articles I have read, the county is not going to spray for mosquitos. I live in Rye and the mosquitos are UNBEARABLE ! The children are eaten alive daily and that's after they get doused with DEET. The rationale is that spraying is bad for bees and birds. The alternative is filling our children with DEET products or having the truly unlucky DIE. Every person who reads this and can remotely relate to the issue is urged to contact Dr. Joshua Lipsman directly. It's criminal to keep pretending the mosquitos in this area are harmless. What if the next victim is a child? It's too little to late to spray after people get sick and die. The Dept is there to protect us and if Westchester taxpayers continue to let politicians decide what is good for us then there can be no public outrage when the next person or child contracts the virus. The Dept of Health Commissioner is Dr. Joshua Lipsman. Their website is very easy to find and it'll post several means of contacting them.
