It's hard to believe that part of my life just went up in flames also after reading about Longs General Store catching fire. I have many good memories of my Uncle Bub's store.

As a child, our family would travel from Minnesota to PA to stay with my Uncle Bub and Aunt Doris for vacation. As I recall, the best part of the whole vacation for me was being able to go to Uncle Bub's store and get penny candy and sit on the old weathered bench in front of the store and eat it. It wasn't just one time I returned but, several times in a day!

It's sad that such a landmark was lost. Like most now, all we have are memories. For me, my memories of Uncle Bub's store will always remain a part of me and hold a very special place within my heart.

That's a shame. Its nice to see the way the community is pulling together to help them out though!

I too remember Long's Store in East Waterford.

Too bad the store didn't sell beer. That drunk driver wouldn't have had to drive that 30 or so miles from the nearest bar, in Mifflin, and pass out behind the wheel. Instead, he could have arrived sober and been sitting on that old bench out front, enjoying a beer from right out of the cooler. Just kidding ...

I do hope they get the store rebuilt and back open for business. It is sorely needed in that remote community.

It sounds like they have a very close, tight-knit community down there that will pull together to get this store back in business. Its the kind of place I'd love to live.
