Hello, I used to live in Mikado in the early 1960s with my parents. I would love if someone could tell me a little about the 2 places where we lived, thier history, and what happened to them, as I cant find them on survey maps or online. We lived in the apartment on top of Kahns general store. I remember beautiful stained glass windows in the front room. After that we moved out to an old farm house which was a white dutch barn style of house. It was called Worsfield farmhouse, and I think, it was to the west of the town inland from Lake Huron. I had many happy hours iceskating on the ponds in the fields to the back of the house. And one memory is of a furnace in the basement, and one day as we ran out of heat, my mother went down to see to it, and had to cut some logs to go til my father got home. She was a farmers daughter so she could use an axe, or thought she could, as it ended with her chopping her toe! We had also lived previously in Oscoda in a cottage along the coastal road from Mikado. The cottage was just across the road from Lake Huron, in front of woodland. I spent many hours playing in the sand-dunes after school.I must have been about 6, and I believe it was here where I had a lovely schoolteacher named Mrs.McDougal. Michigan was the place where I spent most of my childhood, and we later moved on base where my father was stationed. Also, while in Mikado, and living above Kahn's, I was friendly with a girl slightly older than myself named Debbie Rodan. She lived just out of the town on the other side of the road, in a lovely old house which had painted ceiling roses in beautiful colours. There was also a horse in the field in front and an older house which I believe was unoccupied. If anyone remembers of these places, or Debbie Rodan, I would love to know more ie what happened to them, and the history both of Worsfield Farm, and Kahns. Thanks so much! And any old pictures of Mikado or those places being posted, would be wonderful!!

I had Mrs. McDougall for my third grade teacher in Oscoda in the late 70s. She still lives in the area in Alcona County. She's retired now of course. I know her "baby" is grown and has kids. I drive through Mikado a few times a week. I'm not really familiar with that area though.
