Riding to Kempers's Confectionary to pick up a cold bottle of coke, Now and Later candy, and a pack of smokes for the grown-ups, but only if you had a note!!!! Your identity was formed around the subdivision you lived in. Alot of good memories and strong friendships made in Cahokia.

1949, no sub-divisions, one constable, a justice of the peace, a yearly celebration at the park at the intersection of 157 and route 3, with an Indian jamborie, everyone in Cahokia went. Attendented the Cahokia Elementry school (octogon shaped) by the now water dept. I guess like Dicken's said it was the best of times and the worst of times. You always new several of your friends in school that had Polio, many died. The ol' steel bridge across the canal on route 3 was a death trap.

You grew up in Cahokia if you now live in Waterloo and hate the fact that Mike King let the Village get the way it is. You now live around people that grew up in Waterloo and are able to keep their friends and family close and are not forced to move out to have a better life.

That was my stomping ground!

Kemper's was in St. Joe - right by the Bunny Bread store. Gosh I forgot about that place...

Also at that time we had a St. Joe Khoury League and the ballfields were packed with kids.

Oh, and btw - I NEVER tried to by cigarette there, because they knew my mom... but I bought them from the old Floyd's Amoco out of the vending machine. I remember they were only .50 a pack. LOL

Happy Joe's pizza is the place I remember. Had pineapple pizza's and different kinds of pizza. Where was Pantera's Pizza? I remember the name vaguely, but it seems they were not there that long.
