I get it, there was a FB group created called "you grew up in Cahokia if you...". It is mostly white people who moved out bitching about what Cahokia has become. All very true, and sad.

You grew up in Cahokia if you know where the Rope, the Sign and the Cupboard were...

I remember these places, but not the Rope and the other ones you mentioned. Do you remember the old show that was across the street from Braun's Funeral Home? In the 50's.

If you watched drunken, ignorant bigots harass folks wanting to get along with all and run them out of town while throwing their own trash all over town.

Having block parties. We would block off our end of the street put tables in the middle of the street and people would bring a dish. We usually had fish that the men of the neighborhood caught. It was GREAT!

When you told your Mom you were going to the pond you had to differentiate between the first, the second or third and only one actually contained water. Or when you rode your bike to Dillon's Market to buy cigarettes for your Grandma.

Working at Dandee Burger, the roller rink, the Bluffs, playing all day at "the creek" behind Barber Street, Qwik Way, Pitzman School, Chartrand School (does anyone remember Miss Mayes who taught 6th grade in 1971-72?), Futura Drive-In, Glik's, Lums, the trucks that used to come down all the roads during the summer to spray for bugs, etc. Drove through many years ago. Wish I hadn't. Would've liked to remember it like it was.

Also, Manhattan's store - isn't that where everyone bought their Levis?

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Cancer

You're in the market for a little excitement today. You don't want to raise the roof or cause a complete commotion but you would like something to happen that lifts you out of mundane, boring life. With luck you'll get just what you're looking for courtesy of a certain person who's lively and good fun to be around. A short trip will also do the trick.
