From someone who used to work up there it was self defense, you do not know how bad some of the patients are up there.

It doesn't matter how out of control the patient was. There is no reason to shove his face down into the ground for that long to suffocate him. Just a slight turn of his head, so his face was facing one side would have prevented this. I understand that this was an accident, but I feel like they should serve time. It was someones life!

I agree that something could have been done. I dont agree it was a accident. Suffocating a person is not instant or that quick.

Young wanabe rent a cops. Two to five years is also BS. Should be life.

I missed the self defense post. I'm sorry but it was not self defense. It was their job to restrain out of control patients, not kill them.

Suffocation, to die from lack of air or oxygen; be asphyxiated, can take up to 5 minutes in some cases.

Theres other ways to restrain patients. If the cops thought they were doing their job they wouldnt have charged them so there was something on the videos that wasnt right that they are bein charged. And charlie was trying to become a cop lol thank god he cant become a cop now

You guys crack me up.. Actually asphyxiation is when the chest can't rise enough to allow a full amount of oxygen. Secondly all the people that talk shit are typical granite city Hoosiers. Charlie's still gonna make a great police officer, this is a load of crap.

according to the coroner..his chest was unable to open..now..the two are not police, so please refer to them as security..

and i am not sure how the vic arrived at the hospital..but if the police brought him..then the police should have stuck around a while..

also..the meat processing plant (gateway regional) has a unit there for mental patients..they should have better trained employees just for this sort of patient...

the hospital should be brought up on a lot of charges...apparently the hospital condones what happened because the hospital has wrote the incident off...

The hospital should be held accountable.

they should have had a facility and specialists for such an occasion...

it would be like going in there with a compound fracture and them saying they have no X ray machines...

I used to work in the ER at Gateway and seen this kind of behavior quiet often. Most of the young ones walked around down there like they were the police. I knew this was eventually going to happen. Gateway fired every single one of their security guards soon after this incident occurred and hired an outside contractor to take over the security dept. I wonder how many millions that dump will be sued for over this wrongful death.

For all you a**holes that wanna talk shi* and run your mouth, I personally know Charles, and am an ex security guard at the hospital that they are talking about, you have no idea what they have to deal with when it comes to psychotic patients. We go through hours of training and mental bullsh** that idiots like you dish out. Try working a job like that before you want to run your f*cking mouth. Just because the crack head was doped up on narcotics, doesn;t justify that they killed the man. If you knew anything about narcotics, some of them speed up your heart, and yes there's a chance the heart can stop. Does not mean they beat the man to death!

OK why don’t we stop with the names calling and talk about this as adults.

You have worked there and I do not doubt the crazy stuff you have seen or dealt with. I am looking at this as a total outsider. I do not know either side. What happen is very tragic and is probably causing a great deal of pain for both sides. If it was a clean cut accident then there would be no charges.

There were mistakes made and it cost a life. The security could have made sure he had an open path of air. If his heart stopped from being hopped up then that would have been the COD.

I'm not making any threats to anyone, people need to know the facts before they falsely accuse anyone of any wrong doings. We as Public Safety Officers at Gateway Regional Medical Center we're certified in what's called CPI that stands for Crisis Prevention Institute, pretty much what that is, it trains security guards to take an individual and restrain them without as much force as possible without hurting them. Of course there are cameras in every corner of the psych rooms, that record every movement that we did. I do not know exactly what happened because I was not there, nor does anyone else that post on this forum. All I am saying is get your facts right before jumping to conclusion. I've worked with Charles for the past couple of years. Charles is ex military, an auxiliary police officer, and I know that he is an outstanding individual. He has children, and I highly doubt that his actions were intentional. He does not deserve to be wrongfully accused of any wrong-doing by any means. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but you can't judge a person until you have been in their shoes.

I totally agree with you and did not mean any disrespect to either side in this tragic situation or any disrespect to you or anyone else that is sharing their opinion, as long as we all keep it civil.

I think the only thing that can be done here is to show respect to both sides and not jump to conclusions like you said and wait and see what the outcome will be from a jury.
