What the heck is wrong with people. Why is AC constantly full of dogs and cats in Granite City? How do these animals just show up and no one is missing them? If you can't take responsibility for your animal, how about NOT getting one. And stop backyard breeding. Especially your pits! Do you know how many die in Animal Control every day! Do you know how many of those you are breeding will die 1 to 2 years from now?!

I certainly hope the responsible pet owners in Granite City that are looking for a new dog or cat will go to Animal Control (NOT APA) and check out all the wonderful dogs and cats that are sitting in there waiting to die because of the irresponsible people who owned them. They are available for adoption M - F 1:30 to 2:30 or by appointment. The fee is $60.

There has been a constant struggle in Granite City by volunteers to make that facility a NO KILL facility by networking all these wonderful animals. Please help them out by adopting and taking responsibility for your pets. If you have a pet sitting in animal control that you are just letting sit there until Friday... remember a stray is going to die on Thursday because yours is taking up a spot!! DON'T SHOP! ADOPT!

I have seen my neighbors have up to six at a time, then they are all gone. What do they do? They let them out, and then their kids whine and they go get more. Before you give a pet away, KNOW who your giving one to as well. If they have had six dogs a year, well something just isnt right. They are not getting stolen, or just sad things. These dogs are hit by cars left hurt or dead by the side of the road. The others are picked up as misfits and of course to save them a dime they dont pick them up, and go find a new one. Freezing weather I dont want to hear your dog cry, it breaks my heart. Stop making Dogs disposable.

I had no idea you could adopt a dog from Animal Control. I thought it was strictly doggy jail/wait to die purgatory.

Proud that all 3 of my wife and I's dogs are rescues, SPAYED AND NEUTERED, and they include 2 pits. Great dogs. People really need to wake up and realize that there are alotnof dogs that get put down simply because of over population at AC or APA. ITS A SHAME people are willing to spend hundred if not thousands of dollars for a pet when they could just go pay an adoption fee and get the same love and loyalty. Plus most purebreds are super expensive health wise. Most "mutts" or mix-breeds get the best of their Co breeds and are generally healthier dogs. Sorry for the rant!!!

You can absolutely adopt from Animal Control. ALL adoptable dogs are available after a 5 day hold if they are picked up as strays and immediately if they are owner surrenders. There are 3 great dogs available right now that will be euthanized on Thursday if they are not adopted or rescued. Very sweet dogs! PLEASE GO CHECK THEM OUT! SAVE A LIFE!

If you are looking for a new 4 legged family member, PLEASE visit AC today and see what they have. Thursday "Valentines Day" is the day they will die if they do not get out of there. Today is their last shot.

And if you are a responsible pet owner already, spay and neuter your pets!!! It's really cheap at the Edwardsville Humane Society, and sometimes, clinics come to GC for low income people, aound $10 or so.
Oh, and quit buying animals from PetSmat and/or PetCo.:)

Why? They bring them in from area rescues & shelters. I have multiple pets from different petsmart adoptions-one dog is from a shelter north of edwardsville, a cat is from Spencer's in O'fallon and another cat is from the Madison county humane society.

I didn't know their pets were from rescues and shelters. If that is the case, kudos to them. That is wonderful.

Yes Petco and Petsmart have area rescues come in for adoption events. :) Partners 4 Pets is at the Glen Carbon PetSmart every Sunday and the O'Fallon, IL Petsmart every Saturday.

To ANimal control,

I am a local girl scout leader and would love to help get the word out about adoption of the animals you have and save their lives. I read this post and I know my girls would love to help in any way. I didn't know you could adopt animals from animal control and I am sure many do not know either. I think my girls could make a difference.

Girl Scout Troup,

You could make up flyers and pass them out at your events. There really isn't any volunteer work you can do at Animal Control. But flyers can make a world of difference. There are also many groups in the area with facebook pages you could check out. A couple in the area are Partners 4 Pets, Granite City APA, Pound Puppies of STL, Metro East Humane Society. All these groups rescue or find adopters for animals that are in your local Animal Control Facilities :)
