Prime example of why Granite has a well deserved reputation of being infested with Hoosiers.

It is a nice theater, no doubt about that. I just really question the numbers that have been put forth.

I use to manage several movie theaters - the money is not ever made through ticket sales. Even sub-run theaters make very little profit on the ticket sales! Most of the ticket sales money goes right back to the studios. A theater makes nearly all of its money at the concession stand - that is why theater snacks cost more than the price of admission. It is not difficult to make a substantial profit if only half of your patrons make a purchase from the concession stand.

I totally agree with you. My point is that I believe very few people are going to the theater in Granite. Therefore you will not have as many concessions bought. The number of tickets bought still translates into how a theater will do since the more people that buy tickets will possibly buy concessions.

Do you know Steve Dougherty or Jeff Eisentraut by chance or did you manage one of their theaters?

No - I managed movie theaters in Northern and Southern California. I am a new resident to GC.

Just as an FYI. If anyone knew or remembers Dr. Obert Lay he passed away on Christmas Day in Mesa, Arizona. I had appealed to the Press Record and the former St Elizabeth Hospital to acknowledge his dedication to Granite City and the surrounding communities to no avail. He gave his life, energy and time ( a considerable percentage of it for free) for over 4 decades and should be respected. Makes me sad to think I was raised in a community where this is not appreciated!

Was he a plastic surgeon? I worked at St. E's about 25 years ago. I know he was a surgeon. RIP Dr. Lay.

The theater is one thing I happen to enjoy in GC. It's never overly crowded and the tickets are a fair price. It is always clean and they have a great kids box deal for snacks.

The only complaint I have is a couple of times we have gone, there have been some unruly "adults" seeing the same movie and acting like idiots through the entire thing. We complained, but no one stood up to them. That's the only problem we have had in the couple of years we've been going.

Never overly crowded is right. Hardly anybody was there yesterday. Soon there will be proof on how many people are actually going to the theater, unless they go in a rear door.
