Yes Brian, may I be thrown off the bridge of no compassion but I believe the parents own ninety per cent of the fault in their children's behavior and education. These bloodsucking, link card carrying, baby mamas with their five kids by five fathers make me want to puke. These lazy pice of crap men who donate the sperm and then hide like a worm need to die off the face of the earth. These sell my food stamps for a quick fix drug addicts need to burn in hell. Their kids need to be taken from them.
These people who use and abuse the special education system need to be beaten. Sure it's easy now days to get your kid classified with some "D" be it LD,BD or BSD. Meanwhile those of us who work three jobs to keep our family afloat foot the bill for these losers.
Now they don't get all the blame. It appears the special education department in the school district continues to increase their population as a matter of job security. Let's give another kid a "D" and we can hire more people so we don't have to work as hard. Sick system.
Watch out, you'll be the next one to be call a racist by the mother of the year who is more concerned with planning her daughters wedding than what's really going on in the system !! Its a sad world we live in !!

Sure the special ed kids are entitled, by law, to an education. But why do they get unequal funding? Why do they get their special little busses and their special aides and so on and so forth? Meanwhile the normal kid is struggling with his math but there is no funding for a tutor.
The education interests are all for this because, as pointed out by another poster, special programs for these so called special children creates jobs and more union dues for the NEA, IEA, and other education interests.
As for the extra costs. Well the extra dollar spent on one of these uneducatable takes a dollar away from the educateable. How would you like it if your well behaved child can not have a bit of extra help because instead the funding has to go to an aide to watch some undiciplined brat?
Equal funding for all and since this means cutting special ed so that normal students get more services Im all for it.

Most of the children in special ed classes work at a different pace then the rest of the regular classes. They help the kids keep up with their classmates they do the same work at their on speed.Oh i forgot tell you my child was in them from 2nd to 8th grade now graduated and in her third year of collage for her science degree then off to dental school so just to inform you she is a very productive person. well wishes
YOur kid in dental school and a science major? Laugh. You dont go "off to dental school." Every undergrad is going to dental, law, medical or pharmacy school these days till they hit intro chemestry, physics and calculus. Then these floundering kids wish they had a decent high school education instead of being hampered by a bunch of kids with parents that could have cared less.

You can tell who the obvious memebers of the special ed teaching cadre are posting here.
The usual blahs that amount to more funding for the usual "subjective" claims we have heard and seen so often.
Bevery farms is full of the unteachable once they reach majority. There, like in our school systems, taxes again support the problems created by drug addicted parents and others that could care less about their children because in Illinois, mistakes of the parents are financially the problems of society.
Having a child is a responsibility. Can't face that responsibility? Then dont have a child

How do you spell Chemistry again?

You don't need calculus for any of those exams and physics on the MCAT (the only one testing physics) is at high school level.

Here is an interesting tidbit on what is happening worldwide educationally. As the US Schools squander resources on the unteachable and unmanageable..."The number of doctoral degrees in engineering awarded in China has more than doubled, and now far exceeds the number awarded in the United States."

You almost sound proud of the fact that they closed it. Well it's done and hopefully the right action was taken to save money. Now it will be interesting to know if the same board won't waste any more money hiring people that don't need to be hired. The paper pointed out two administrative jobs would be eliminated. A principal from Niedringhaus will be transfered and the new principal of the high school Mrs. Gagich's old position won't be replaced.

If indeed the board does go back on that promises the union will have no choice but to stand strong against the rest of the plan. Watch the next few meetings people. Connected names are already being mentioned for jobs downtown. Broke? Maybe not.

Save money? Didn't the district recently agree to pop about a quarter milion per year for a replacemnent for Briggs to run what is basically a baby sitting service?

some of you folks make me laugh. Just because you're no longer a part of the district you come here and bad mouth people and their decisions. If you hadn't gotten yourself termiated, you would be sitting here singing the districts praises. Get real!

What are you talking about? My point is we are told we are going broke. Okay they closed the building. However administration has to be the leader and absorb cuts too. That means when one retires they find a way to do without the position. That's absurd if they do not. Teachers won't be replaced nor will janitors so why not administrators. They currently have two retiring principals and one losing her job because of the closing. Use her to fill one and do away with the other. There's even talk about naming an "assistant superintendent" just to promote one of the existing principals to a cushy job downtown. More waste.

Plenty of money to let Briggs retire from the county, then temporarily come back to boost his high three earnings. No big deal though. Briggs is a democrat and Granite loves paying the democrat elitests big bucks.
Suffer the consequences now finally for once and for all
Bsides Granite is just a baby sitting service for the special ed children anyway. Orphanages would be a better use of tax dollars

Brian please don't put down or blame the special ed children for the demise of the district finances. Blame the special education administrators for spending money they don't need to spend hiring people only to get rid of them a couple of years later. Bye Bye Bowler. Of course he was pushed out so a couple of "connected" ladies could take over and continue the hiring spree. Kids can't help what they are Brian.

Staffer my comment wasn't for you. That individual knows sho they are. The Niedringhaus principal will most likely vill the vacancy of the retiring elementary principal. It is my understanding that in an effort to cut expenses without cutting personnel vacancies will not be filled

Oh but I do blame the special ed mess on the students and the parents that made them the way they are
Most of those kids need some home training from their parents. Parents, you know the ones that chose to have the children and are now too lazy to see to their parenting responsibilities.
I have seen a lot of good parents in my day but a lot of the current bunch are just plain lazy and their children are a reflection of it too

Brian, you'll have to explain how it's the fault of a child who is mentally or physically impaired or his parents. That makes no sense.

If you refer to behavior disorder children perhaps you're partially correct but kids with autism or other disabilities suffer from real issues. Please don't degrade them with such words.

Special education is an important part of society. Like it or not we have to take care of those children. What has hurt the Granite City School system is greedy administrative people who use the department for personal gain.

We all know of the Paul Bowler story and his hiring antics. It hasn't stopped. Mrs. Schuler-Hubbard has continued right down the path as as her assistant Mrs. Burnett who just happens to be the wife of a board member. Yes they continue to spend and hire people despite the board closing this fine old building. It's a shame it's allowed to go on but power corrupts.

Leave the kids out of this Brian. It's an adult problem. Thank you.

We have to take care of these children?
Why?
Why should people be taxed to pay for the decisions of others?
You choose to have a child, you pay for the consequences
Today Granite is full of single mothers that live off of the stipends allocated to raise these children. The school districs are drained of funds trying to meet various mandates to try to serve them.
Send thse brats home to those that chose to have them
Oh and to you who I surmise are a govermental or agency employee profiting off of the lather perhaps you might find honest employment someday. The state is broke and soon you will be on the streets as well

Brian karma says you'll end up with a special needs child. I hope not. You remind me of a man I read about who tried to make a perfect society by eliminating all those he felt inferior. His name?
Adolph Hitler.
Money waste is one thing. Trashing kids with needs is a whole other topic.
