The next cut will be the teachers. You can not just keep spending and spending when the tax payers no longer have jobs or money. Get real - we all have to cut something out. Seniors more than anyone.

Yet you seniors had no problem with your parents and grandparents paying the taxes to educate your children. Public education is a sample of helping our future. Sure times are tough but that doesn't mean these kids aren't entitled to the same education you and your kids got.

As for turning off the AC, get serious. They start school early now and it's hot. A hot classroom and heat schedules don't do anything for the education process. When your grandparents were in school most were in a one room schoolhouse with a coal stove. Were you entitled to such pleasentries? Of course you don't see it that way now.

I suggest you seniors get a clue and understand what's at stake here. You had your day now give it up for the young people. Your generation screwed things up to the point where many states are now broke. Congratulations. Now kindly pay your taxes and STFU.

Our schools did NOT have AC. The teachers taught us in the heat and in the cold. Lets get one thing straight - we seniors have paid our taxes and we are still paying taxes. It is you young ones that expect everyone else and the government to pay for you, and all of your wants. We seniors were proud people and we did not expect the government to take care of us - you young ones think the world owes you a living - you want higher wages, less hours, less kids, and you expect the government to pick up the monies for your retirements. I put my chid threw COLLEGE and the government did not have to pay one penny for his education. Stop your whining and work for what you want and stop mooching off of the government and seniors. BTW the teachers in my day were not pantie waste - they sweat just like we did but they taught us and our schools were not failing the STATE requirements like they are today. We had teacher that were dedicated - today we have "I want" teachers and if they do not get their way they strike and the kids can go to hello.

Trucker, your child left home and got government grants to go to school after you molested her. How much of your welfare check goes to schools. Your Mom hung out in the closet and you inherited your shack you pay $700 a year taxes on. Go back to Cahokia Topics scumball.

YOU ARE A FILLTHY Mouth Scum Bag. You are one of those people that like to judge everyone to be just like you. Won't work -there are some of us that have a lot of pride and we earned every bit of it - not like some one who lives off the government and will not look for a job because they are too busy playing video games. GROW UP and become a man instead of a snot nose kid.

Don't you seniors get things like the circuit breaker and assorted other goodies to buy your vote? Elimnation of those goodies would solve the problem of you freeloading old jerks that elect the free spenders because you dont pay the taxes

Well, if you are from Granite as your ISP hookup would indicate, your school district is in the process of hiring a new superintendant if I am not mistaken. Something to the tune of a starting wage of 260,000 per year. Then your district hired Briggs to come back for a few years to significantly boost his pension too. I hope you think about that next election

No I do not get circuit breakers or other goodies and NO ONE CAN BUY MY VOTE. Those of us "Old Jerks" that saved our money can not qualify, we make too much in pension and interest, and I am sure I pay MORE FEDERAL AND STATE TAXES than you do. I vote for the man/person that I believe will do right by America - not if they are Rep or Dem. Obama bought his votes with his freebees, and promises of same sex marriage, and illegal aliens citizenship. There have been thousands that have been here in America waiting for their citizenship and they have come threw the system but Obama will push ahead for the illegals - and the ones in the system can go to he**. Needless to say my person lost the election and America is going to be bankrupt before 2016..

Maybe they should review the teachers wages! Most of the teachers are making 55k and upwards and can't even educate our children up to standards and that's with us doing two hours worth of homework with my 4th grader everyday. The teachers are getting lazier and expect parents to spend hours on homework, after working all day, and then making dinner, takin all quality family time away, just so they can get better test scores. And almost all unit ten schools are failing state standards! We should hire new teachers at lower wages, who are fresh out of school. Then we can have more teachers.

some years back I was at the administration building and I saw someone getting the circuit breaker. Here is how they did it. In Illinois pensions are not taxed. So this individual showed the clerk their Illinois income tax return. Sure as a button they told they qualified. Now I happen to know that the person collected a pension from one of the refineries and their wife got an SIU pension. Im sure they didnt dream that up onn their own so my guess is a lot of the old senior citizen cheaters get away with this and then go ahead and vote for their loyal democras of madison county once again
Its a tradition in Madco

SIU, McKendree and all the other assorted colleges in the area graduate qualified teachers each and every year that can not find a job. These young enthusiastic individuals could find a job if wages were dropped to market parity. But Unions will never allow it and with Illinois the way it is nothing is going to change. That malarky about "its for the children" stops when it comes to teachers wages

I feel like when contracts are up they should let go of those teachers who classes are not up to standards and replace them with someone who is eager to teach and happy to earn a 35-40k a year. Then instead of cutting jobs we could increase jobs even with the budget cut. Plus then those teachers would have to learn they can be replaced even if they have higher education degrees. It doesn't matter their level of education if they can't perform up to standards. I was looking and some of our grade school teachers make 80k a year. That is two positions and smaller classes, which would increase one on one time and the ability to help those children who need the extra help. Wishful thinking...

Everybody is overlooking the simple fact that the only cuts being made are from the American citizens...whether from the seniors, teachers, veterans,or military doesn't matter... its unacceptable !!!! If the trillions of dollars stopped being handed out over seas and to the illegals we wouldn't have the problems we do today !! Not to mention the damn government.... that's where the first cuts need to be made and we the people need to demand it rather than bickering back and forth with eachother !!!! And there ya go problem solved !!!
