just some garbage

United States

#1 May 8, 2008
During a recent Port Jeff Village session, an individual who has since denied responsibility had this to say about HHM:"Father Frank is part of the garbage problem."
As well as a long rant regarding people as waste.
Father Frank WORKS for The Beacon Record. Some thanks, huh.
The full article appeared this week.

I guess (TBR)has not yet experienced the joy of having a loved one kill himself of a self inflicted gunshot wound, poison himself, hang himself, run away never to be seen again, over dose, etc, etc
These are REAL problems young men in this community of PORT JEFFERSON and the greater Suffolk area face every day, Father Frank is a hero in my opinion and surely of anyone who knows him would say like wise {clearly (TBR) does not}. Father Francis Pizzarelli, Barbra Verruto, Janet Brennan, Patty Griffin and many others simply want to help young men and women in crisis. They are saving lives. Yes, quality of life issues are present, but don't think for a second HHM isn't doing everything they can to coexist peacefully.
To sum up this Saint on earths work as “garbage” is utterly shameful and disgusting.

At the Very Least, The author of the piece (Dave Willinger) should have given Father Frank the opportunity to defend himself against the criticism. This is a practice TBR usually ignores, for what ever their motives may be.

__it happens
I believe that no decent reporter would ever intentionally misquote someone. I also believe that Willinger, and actually all TBR reporters, follow high-standards of media etiquette and report the straight facts. A comment posted above states, "Father Frank WORKS for The Beacon Record. Some thanks, huh." There is your proof....A reporter should not bias or change his/her story just because a person is associated with their paper. They must simply report the facts. This was just an unfortunate error. Kudos to Fr. Frank for his hard work for the less fortunate, and to the TBR [Willinger] for an appropriate apology. Let's move on and work together on other issues facing the community.

While the error may be unfortunate, I do recall a story Mr. Willinger wrote back in January about the Comsewogue School District not meeting no child left behind standards. Interestingly enough, he failed to get comments from school board members before the story went to press. Me thinks i see a pattern.

This type of lazy reporting is one of the reasons newspapers will be history soon
