East St. Louis shuts down Eighth Street at Trendley Avenue near interstate due to flooding

City officials shut down Eighth Street at Trendley Avenue on Wednesday morning because of an overflow of water causing motorists cars to stall out.
Public Works Director Jessie Walker said the pump station at the location is old, and antiquated and not working.
'And, when it rains, we get an average of 3 inches of rain,' he said. 'We get more rain now than we did 30 years ago. We've had two days of rain, and today, the snow we recently got is melting. Motorists who travel the Trendley-at-Eighth-Street route ran into some problems because of the overflow of water the pumping station was not pumping out.' Read more
