East Rockaway man rescues, places wildlife in zoos -

Full story: Newsday

With equal vigor, Larry Wallach rough-housed yesterday on the front lawn of his East Rockaway house with his young son and a 14-pound cat - but this feline was a 7-week-old Siberian Tiger cub.

Larry Wallach did not "save" this tiger. He buys tigers to play with all day long on his front lawn.

How about asking the question if you would like to live next door to a charter bus in front of your house.

Larry Wallach has nothing to do and all day to do it.

He is a menace to have for a neighbor.

It is a grave concern to everyone who lives near Larry Wallach that some day, these so called "rescued" tigers will get out.

He spends his days doing nothing but thinking up things to annoy his neighbors!!

Good work, Larry. C&V told me yrs ago they saw u at FLL airport waiting for ur cat to deplane. They missed it. Dam!
I'm doing my best, as well to help the smaller felines - as always. If hubby and I ever run into u in the City, let us know what else can be done.
Love & Thanks -

Just got a sec to read the previous comments & Larry, they're right. The point is to keep the cat(s) safe; your neighbors safe; yourself safe - and everyone happy. I'm hoping you would consider another area where that can be possible. I know u have a heart of gold since school daze, I'd rather not see any negative comments concerning u.
Peace Out, L.

This story may explain why I once saw an SUV with a tiger in the cargo area driving across the tracks in front of Pathmark in East Rockaway. I always wondered about that.

This is a complete LIE. Vanishing Species is NOT a Zoo nor a Sanctuary. It is a place where animals are purchased and explotied with no reservation until they have died from exhaustion, hunger, and lack of veterinary care. This man is NO Saint. He is simply a broker making a buck without a bit of concern for the animal's well being. If he did care, there is no way on God's green earth he would ever entrust an animal like this to Vanishing Species. Sadly, this cat will be used as a picture baby to line the pockets of the owners and probably be dead or dying within the next year like so many other big cats already have. A simple visit to their "facility" will open the eyes of all.

I speak from experience. Unfortunately, this poor animal is doomed to a life of exhaustion, starvation, and neglect. I have seen baby tigers, lions, panthers, and bears so exhausted from human handling for pictures that they could not open their eyes nor hold their heads upright. This man is a broker. Barbara buys often from him when she needs new babies since her "sancturary" cats are over bred. What kind of sanctuary breeds their animals? NONE...Does Larry know or even care that the 2 bears he recenly sold to Barbara for the Dade Fair are already sold again to another facility because they have out grown their money making potential? This man should not be praised for his actions. He is part of a nationwide problem exploiting these beautiful creatures. This paper should be embarassed for reporting this story without researching the accuracy of its facts.

Excellent story about an individual trying to help maintain wildlife. What's unusual about this is the personal effort
expended by an "independently wealthy" man. It's a good
antidote--particularly for young people--against the non-stop nonsense printed about vacuous wealthy persons such as Paris Hilton. It shows that goodwill exists among people of all classes.

I REMEMBER THIS GUY FROM THE VET I USE TO WORK FOR. HE'S REALLY NOT VERY BRIGHT. ONE OF HIS DOGS WAS LOADED WITH TUMORS WHICH HE NEVER WANTED TO REMOVE. HE IS ARROGANT AND RUDE. JUST BECAUSE A PERSON IS INDEPENDANTLY WEALTHY DOES NOT MAKE HIM A DO-GOODER. I HELP ANIMALS ALSO, BUT BIG CATS HAVE NO BUSINESS IN AREAS SUCH AS THIS. THIS GREAT CAT SHOULD NOT BE SLEEPING IN A CAGE IN HIS GARAGE, IT SHOULD BE IN A HAVEN THAT IS AS CLOSE TO IT'S NATURAL HABITAT AS POSSIBLE.

Newsday should be ashamed of themselves for not researching this obnoxious, child-man, who does nothing more than line his pockets and ego with his "saved animals". Its all about the money, honey!!! What else is new, it is LI the land of the money hungry.

Since you are not independently wealthy you will not be permitted to have a tiger on your front lawn.

(neither is Larry BTW... his money came from his father's Insurance company, which recently was taken over by the State)

LW is a 49 year old Dennis the Menace. Under no circumstance should he be allowed to have tigers or any other living creatures in his care or his property.

It is totally absurd.

I was thinking about replying to your comment but I'm not even going to waste my time.

Ok, Larry Wallach once braught a baby tiger into my chem class while I was enrolled at ERHS. He seemed like an alright guy; though, he does lack some social skills. He cares for the animales, what else needs to be said?

you have no clue what you are talking about. the cages these animals live in are 10ft x 24 ft. the minimum legal size for state regulations...if they make it there. so many have already died this year from their negligence. you obviously don't know barb very well because if you did, you would know what her house looks and smells like. open your eyes you ignorant jerk.

i know barb too. she is a sad excuse for a human being. always the victim. she eats out every night, gets manacures and peticures and brand new clothes, and pays people to do her housework and deal with her animals. all the while these poor creatures are suffering in small cages with empty bellies because the meat she gets to feed them is rancid and she complains that she has no money.
