You're not going to believe this but I thought Mirapex was a miracle drug until latelty. I suffer from severe restless leg and thought this was the answer to my prayers. I've taken the drug for about 7-8 years now and within the last 6 months have gradually become nearly crippled. I have felt 106 years old. Every muscle and joint in my body hurt like a suffering elderly person, which by the way, I am 41. I, just two days ago was tested for Lupis, Fibromyalgia, and Rhumatoid arthritus (Please excuse the spellings). Those results are not back yet but guess what..... While in the doctors office I asked about trying Requip because the onset of my problems bbegan when doubling my dose of Mirapex. So the doctor told me to stop taking Mirapex and begin a gradual dose pack of Requip. TWO days not on Mirapex..... My pain is GONE!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it but the crippling pain I have been suffering from ended when I stopped taking Mirapex!!!!! I wish there was a way to tell the world! I'm suffering major restlessleg right now because of the low dossage of Requip I'm on in the building process but Good God the Muscle and joint pain is GONE!!!!!!!!!!

YES and that is just the start of it! My issues began with foot pain early in the morning. This progressed to foot and leg pain in the AM and PM. This then progressed to every muscle and joint in my body over about a six month span.

I am currently evaluating use of Mirapex for fibromyalgia. My doctor prescribed it in October and I'm now on 3.0 mg at night. I have noticed less musculoskeletal pain, especially upon physician examination, and during daily routine. But I also have sciatic pain and numbness in my right leg, and Mirapex doesn't seem to touch it, no relief given. My evaluation of Mirapex so far is positive. I wonder if a higher dose will affect the sciatic and right leg pain.

I have experienced relief from severe musculoskeletal pain with use of Mirapex, but I didn't notice a difference in the pain level until I reached a nightly dose of 2.5 mg. I'm now on 3.0 mg at night and will see how this affects me in regards to pain.
So far, I think its a great drug for fibromyalgia.

I've recently began taking Mirapex for fibromyalgia and have noticed facial twitching since being on 2.0 mg nightly. I'm learning to control it. I also have tightening of the forearms and hands, having to consciously relax throughout the day. But I don't know if these are related to Mirapex for sure, because I stopped taking another medication, Zyprexa, which can result in anxiety.

how could you possibly consider using a dopamine agonist for RLS or fibromyalgia??? people with parkinson's frequently MUST take this drug--owing to inability to take one of the other agonists or sinemet--but do not consider it a miracle drug by any means--what are you all thinking???????just look up one of the web sites devoted to parkinson's disease and search the name of the drug.....

Hi,

I found this site while researching Mirapex. My life is a living hell and has been so with RLS for a long time now. I have virtually confined myself to the house, don't like to go out, don't sleep properly, am a different person personality wise, and fear that I am not going to make it through this if it doesn't stop. I thought perhaps Mirapex even though I read the warning. I don't like any of the drugs. But I have recently questioned that if I have considered death as an option, perhaps I should consider this.

Often, I run around the house crazed to try to get it out of my system. I just can't stand it anymore. I never got relief from Sinemet. I think all the drugs are problematic. There has to be a way to live again. It has been too long.

Any advice?

I have been taking it for several months.
I just picked up a new prescription yesterday.
and I am suddenly having facial twitching in my left side of face by nose and lip. it wont go away.

I couldn't believe it when I heard a few months back that Docs were giving Fibromyalgia patients Mirapex! This drug has caused my life to change in the most horrible ways. I have Fibro, but Mirapex was given to me for restless leg syndrome. I also was given Requip several years ago for Fibro, and it made me so much worse I wasn't walking much. I was looking into a motorized chair when I discovered that Requip was the problem! Not knowing about behavioral-type side effects in those days, I started taking Mirapex under the advice of my doc at Mayo Clinic,the very place in which the first big study came out on compulsive gambling. During all of this time, I was going through these awful behaviors and I didn't know why. I gained a ton of weight (I'm still gaining even though I'm off of the drugs), I began shopping compulsively every day (I used my Mom's credit card until I wasn't able to pay her back anymore). I was gambling and drinking to excess. To make a huge story shorter, I went through treatment (and have not had a drink since), I have gambled everything I have and have been bailed out by family twice (I'll never be able to pay my mom back!), I tried to commit suicide. My children (grown) found me on my deck after I had taken large amounts of RX controlled sub. pills. I was taken away by ambulance and spent some time in the hospital. I have not been able to quit gambling and eating. The only reason I am not shopping is because I don't have any money. But if I do go into a store, I can't leave. I just look around and get "stuck" there. I need to try and remember so much for my attorney, so excuse my running on... Has anyone else out there had all of these behaviors???

I also started taking Mirapex several months ago for fibromyalgia. At first it seemed to be helping, then I started noticing increased drowsiness. It got so bad I couldn't stay awake. Driving became scary. Then other symptoms began appearing. Increased pain so bad I could barely get around, edema in lower extremities(entire legs)left being worse than the right, edema around my eyes, memory impairment. I could look at something and know what it was but something else would come out of my mouth, severe burning sensation of my skin, involuntary muscle contractions, unusual numbness and tingling in ends of fingers. Talked to my doctor and just recently had blood drawn to test for Lyme disease and Epstein Barr and wants me to have an MRI of the Brain to rule out MS. Guess what I started doing some research on Mirapex and stopped the drug and all the symptoms have gone away. I also considered suicide. My life was miserable. All that kept me going is my beautiful grandchildren. I might add only after 2 days off the drug I felt much better.

To all of you who have been experiencing problems with Mirapex like I did you should call the manufacturer and report the symptoms. Your doctor certainly isn't going to do it. They are too busy. The manufacturer is Boehringer and the number in the US is 1-800-243-0127. I called them yesterday. Make sure you have all your symptoms written down, when they started, when they got worse. They will go through a series of questions with you. And then send a follow up letter to see how you are doing.

FINALLY! Finally I find someone who is having same problems. I kept telling this to my doctor...but he said never heard about that. There are many things the drug companies do not tell us. It took me a long time before it started but I know it is Mirapex.
