IT IS SAD THAT A YOUNG BOY LOST HIS LIFE FOR A STUPID CAUSE. I LOST A BROTHER CUZ OF GANGS AND DRUGS. HE WAS KILLED OVER 20 YRS AGO AND THAT LOSS, THAT PAIN, THAT EMPTINESS OF HIS ABSENCE STILL LINGERS ON. IT DOESN'T GO AWAY. HE IS STILL REMEMBERED AND LOVED. I WATCHED MY MOTHER CRY FOR HIM EVERY NIGHT FOR MANY YEARS. THIS IS A SAD SENSELESS WAR. WE SHOULD HELP OUR NEIGHBORS AND WATCH OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER NOT KILL EACH OTHER. I agree with Rach. Especially in a neighborhood of under 1500 population. It's sad to see that in small towns like Pixley, there is still little gangsters running the streets! That community needs more activities for the families. Especially the schools, they are not the best. Their test scores are extremely low, and being that it is such a small neighborhood, and small schools, the children should receive better education that more populated cities, but not in Pixley, the schools are not doing good. And as we see, neither is the neighboorhood.

LAg, as an employee of Pixley school I take offense to your comments about the school and its teachers. Everyone works diligently to give these students a chance at life without gangs. Scores are low because of the language barrier that exists from kindergarten through the 8th grade. Students are taught in English at school, then go home to Spanish. A large majority of the population does not speak English or care to learn it. How are these parents supposed to help with their children's homework when many of them don't have an education above 6th grade? I'll also bet you've never run a classroom, designed lesson plans and useful homework, and actually tried to make a difference in the lives of our youth.

Actually I was an elementary teacher for a few years, and I do agree with you about the language barrier, but, then the school needs to provide more resources for the parents. And though I am not a teacher now, I still do work with children, and am helping in making a difference in the lives of the children, especially children that have parents that do not speak English. I help the parents as well.
