I LIVE IN MASTIC BEACH NOT TO FAR FROM THERE. WITH THE TAXES I PAY THERE THEY SHOULD JUST KNOCK DOWN THE BUILDING AND TRAILER . ALSO WHERE IS THE SECURITY GUARDS WHEN KIDS GET OFF THE BUS AND NOT GOING INTO THE SCHOOL.THERE SHOULD BE A GUARD AT EVERY BUS WATCHING TO MAKE SURE THE KIDS GET INTO SCHOOL.THE POOR GIRL DIDN'T DESERVE THAT .

When things got ugly at Sachem, the district smartly created a fenced-in "holding-pen" for youths who wanted to go out during their lunch break. Otherwise, Sachem became a "closed campus". Students were not allowed to leave the campus at all if they were supposed to be attending their classes. William Floyd School District, when will you make your campus a closed campus to protect your kids? There's an "Animal House" across the street! Please! Give your kids a few more years of being kids before they go off to college to get molested there.

drastic mastic in the house. what a sh%$ hole that building is. It was shot when it was a business. leveling it would be nice. there are a lot of wierdo's that hang around that school and the surounding areas. patrols should be stepped up and the police held more accountable when looking the other way. I know they do for a fact.; If you don't hand them a tape of a crime they don't do sh##

When I lived there my daughter would do the same thing by getting off the bus, then actually going to her locker and then outside right past those dumba$$ security guards who do nothing to stopped these kids. When I called the school repeatedly I was just brushed off with the answer of we can't stop them from leaving and kids nowadays don't listen. My whole point was what if one of these kids were to be hit by a car but I guess I didn't think far enough since this could be just as bad. Maybe if the school had listened 2 years ago when I was complaining then maybe this could have been avoided. Thank goodness I moved to a place that is so on top of absences that if you have more than 3 unexcused then the school hauls your butt into court and fines the parents $300 a day. William Floyd officials are a waste of taxpayer money and are getting what they deserve. It is the schools reponsibility once the kids are on the bus and allowing them to walk off school grounds I feel is negligent behavior.

This girl is very fortunate this incident didn't turn for the worse.
Being alone in a trailer with this scum for a few hours was scary enough. She was brave, but not wise to skip class to hangout that day.
I'm glad they got this sicko.

The School should be accountable for these kids when they are in their possession. Bottom line.. If the school did their job these kids wouldn’t be there. It is suppose to be a locked campus. I have had problems with the kids starting fires in the woods next to William Paca and we asked the kids how they get out of the school and they said "We know what security guards to go to" I contacted the school numerous times while Suffolk police held the kids on scene at the last incident, it took 45 mins for the school to send a security guard. The security guard showed up and said "There is to many what do you want me to do" with her attitude. About 30 mins later we witnessed the kids walking down Mastic Rd. I would assume the security guard didn’t even bring them back to school…..

I feel bad for the young girl. Sounds like a lost teenager and now this horrible memory. I hope God stays with her and protects her and gives her common sense from here on in.

All kids cut school at some time or another. Just because this young lady did and had a bad experience doesn't mean she's this "lost teenager". Bottom line- she's just a teen doing teenage things. Quit being a bleeding heart that over sympathizes just to turn the cheek from the other underlying problems and their causes.

What I seriously don't understand is why ANY school district would allow open campuses. Not to be a jerk about this, but until a person graduates high school, schooling is their only responsibility. The school day in this school district is under 7 hours. Unless a student has a shortened schedule (and a pass to leave early), attends BOCES or is medically excused- no student should be allowed to wander off the property.

If they want to cut school- they'll have to be craftier then.

Again, I am so glad that Suffolk PD set up a sting operation just two days ago to bust johns picking up an officer dressed like a hooker... because those willing to pay for sex should be punished; and yet they can turn their heads to the sexual deviants and low lives that dwell in this town.

Maybe they focus should their aim for the already existing criminals instead of conjuring new ones.

There are some really good people living in the Shirley/ Mastic area. I know first handed- I live here. We're no different than anyone else on Long Island. We just want a safe place to raise our families and live, within our financial means. Help us by removing the scum that infests our towns. There is way too many registered sex offenders living in this area. The state needs to step up and do something- NOW.

The majority of the residents here are young couples with children. We all moved here for one reason- it's affordable. Help us to help protect our children.

You really cant blame the school for her cutting and going to hang out at an abandoned house. She put herself in a situation that the school can not be responsible for. She did not deserve what happened to her, but she never should have put herself in that situation. Had she attended school as she was supposed to, it wouldnt have happened at all. Parents are the ones responsible to know where their kids are at all times not schools, especially if the student never comes in the building. I live near there and the area by the HS should be a little more "protected" due to the JR HS being there also, it has been a problem for a long time. Maybe now someone will work on it!

For some reason I don't believe the girl, I remember cutting school but never by myself? I would always cut with someone and go hang out but think about it....why would a girl just go to a abandoned house? and do what....she just sat there? She probably knew him and wanted to hang out with him(maybe she found him attrative) and it lead into something else. I hope she will learn her lesson.

Agreed, I am very happy to be away from that school district. Sounds worse than when I left. When was the last time a good story came out of the town?

HEY . does anyone else get it that this would not have happened if she had gone to school where she belonged?

And can you think of a single demographic in greater need of education than a 13 year old female from Mastic Beach?

[Well, yes, I 'spose I could....but still}

Debbi Schutte, 49, who had lived in the boarded-up house and now resides in the trailer, said she'd left a few days ago when her heating broke and had met Meenahan and the victim before. Schutte said Meenahan acted as if he was "was very well informed with what was going on in the Police Department."

It wasn't the first time this girl was with this guy
