Political corruption and patronage is commonplace in this country. The problem here is the legislature, not Kelly Vacco. Patronage will never stop--why doesn't the legislature just give Kelly and Dennis $22,000?

I always looked at the WA as patronage. Now I'm confused. The Dem Legislature handed it to a Republican. Patronage or not? Maybe she IS the best for the job, even though the job should no longer exist.

M the Engineer wrote: I cant believe it. Collins isnt in office and he has already screwed things up. I don't even know where to start. 1. You admit Collins isn't even in office. 2. You still blame him for this. You do see the problem there right? Collins had no say as to who got this position. Maybe you should look to Legislature, who idiot Erie County voters left almost entirely unchanged last election.

My understanding is that a Republican had to get the position because they are at the limit of Democrats according to an article last week in Buffalo News. In that same article it was stated anyone interested in the job could send a letter to Lynn Marinelli applying for the position, yet they announce the board member less than a week later, I am sure she didn't even look at the applications received. I am disappointed in Collins over this, I really thought he would put an end to this kind of policitcal BS, why not just put Paul Clark on the board Chris?????

Geez, he's not even in office yet! How can you criticize him? How about if we actually give him a chance to get settled into office and do the job before we judge the job he is doing? You people need to get real.

Once again to all you people out there who obviously don't understand how elections work... COLLINS IS NOT IN OFFICE YET! HE IS THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE-ELECT. HE DOESN'T TAKE OVER UNTIL JANUARY 1ST!!! HE PLAYED NO PART IN THIS APPOINTMENT!!

Don't blame Collins, he is not in office yet. As for the politics, get rid of the authority and just have it as another department.

All of the people that Collins' said were "volunteers" to his transition team are already starting to show up on the county payroll. If I remember correctly, on a previous post, you chastised me for saying that this was eventually going to happen, and that I should have read the article better! Sounds to me like we are on the verge of getting the same ol', same ol'.

Obviously ignorance is part of the problem. Chris Collins had no part in who the Republican party nominated. There were approx. eight candidates who were interviewed for the position. A check into Mrs. Vacco's past experience will show that she has ample qualifications. So lets not judge her based on who she is married to, but on the person she is. The issue is separate from weather or not there should be a water authority board. There was a vacant position, she applied for it, and was chosen. Heaven forbid a woman accompilish something on her own with out standing on the shoulders of a man.

How come the job pays more than $1.00 a year like Collins?

Becky

only part of the team is now getting paid. the big ticket ones are still donating their time. for now. the WA job pays what the Leg and former CE's set it for. Collins gets paid more than $1, but is donating all but that back.Subtle difference.

I don't normally pay much attention to the "Snooze" - they are SO one-sided when it comes to politics, and their endorsed man lost. boo hoo. And I don't think you are remembering correctly - I don't believe I ever chastised you on this subject.(I do remember that there was a time that there were two Jennifers posting though...)
