Man Charged In Robbery of East Northport Market

An East Northport man walked into a supermarket Sunday, took money from the cash register, threatened an employee with a knife - and ended up in jail, police said Monday.

Alan Lepre, 46, of 546 5th Street, was arrested about a half-hour after he robbed the Grower's Market supermarket on Larkfield Road, Suffolk police said.

He was charged with first-degree robbery and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for possessing heroin, police said.

He is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said Lepre entered the market at about 7:00pm Sunday, took the cash from the register and, when an employee attempted to stop him, he threatened the worker with a knife. Police canvassed the area and found Lepre at 7:35pm and he was arrested.
