Southold Taxpayer

If I do not pay my Town Taxes in May and December of every year, the Town of Southold simply puts a lien on my Real Property, although if the Town of Southold is fiscally irresponsible with the taxpayers hard earned dollars, they simply sell property that the Town Taxpayers originally had paid for (Old Peconic School House).

The School Super should be fired as well as laying off all the $40k a year Teaching and Administrative Assistants. Unbelieivable...

The remaining members of the School Board of 2004 thru 2006 should in good conscience RESIGN.They were elected to budget and spend the monies that were approved by the voters. Some have their own business and would they allowed other people to write checks and not check out the monies being spent and where the monies are coming from. They should fire the clerk who wrote these checks to and they shuld be made to pay back the over spent monies. It is their duty to know about the monies and should have resigned. They would fire anyone in their business that did the same thing. All they do is blame it on other people and say "I did not know this was happening." It is their job to know how checks are being written.
It is the same as two board members have wives on the staff payroll. Therefore raises are automatic. Could you see these board members who do not supervise the school monies properly, go home after a board meeting and say to their wife, "Honey I voted not to give you a salary increase this year." By their past decisions they do not have the intestinal fortitude (guts) to vote not to give the staff (union) a raise.

Southold is run by a bunch of over paid idiots. As far as firing all the $40k a year teachers goes, that would mean firing 90% of the faculty. There are many making over $100k a year, including a 1st grade teacher. Now come on, 1st grade can't be that hard to teach. The problem is that when administrators screw up like this it's the students and the lowest level employees that suffer. I was there when the screw up was announced to the employees and how they planned on fixing it. They felt they could correct it by firing a handful of the lowest paid workers. I'm talking $10k to $20k a year workers. Instead of starting at the top.

Punish the teachers making $100,000 who worked 30 years to get to that salary level? Why bother working at all if your going to fire somebody for doing their job year after year and reaching a point where their salary is commensurate with their experience? People who make an arrogant blanket comment over a group of people without knowing what it takes to get to that salary level are simply jealous of others more well off them themselves.

Ennio C., you misunderstood what i was saying. I was responding to the comment above about firing all teachers making over $40k a year. I have no problem with someone that puts in 30+ years and is paid accordingly. Yes, i did make a bit of an off handed comment about a certain teacher but that really isn't my issue. My problem is with the administrators that make the mistakes and then fire the hard working and under paid staff in an effort to correct it.
