What about the engineers that East Moline has. They are the highest paid City employees and they are not getting any pay cuts or looking at layoffs. East Moline used to use private engineering firms on contract which was cheaper and now have their own engineers, some of which were hired from the firms they contracted from.

I am disgusted by this! We need our police officers, dispatchers AND our maintenance people. BUT no one seems to be talking about the maintenance people. They are the ones that plow and salt those roads so we can all get to work and home to our loved ones safely. They are the ones that fix the water main breaks so that we all have water. They are the ones picking up our garbage. They are the ones out there with the people helping and cleaning and no one is even realizing how much it is going to effect them. It is unreal to me that the city would choose to cut jobs then try to make some other arrangements.

This whole lay-off is very upsetting to me as a East Moline resident. I totally agree with both saw & concerned. It is ridiculous for the city to be outsourcing engineering contracts, when they have them on staff and are getting paid big dollars. Not to mention all of the other outsourcing they do for lawn care and road work. Why hasnt the maintenance staff even been mentioned? As a resident, I appreciate trash pick up, clean parks, snow removal, road repairs, water main repairs and so on. I understand that in a union everything is based on senority. How about laying off some of the workers who take more breaks than do work? I am charged triple for water than what I use to pay every three months. Where is all the revenue from that going to? The city continues to ask for suggestions in order to help cut costs, but they do not want to implement any of the suggestions that have been offered over the past few months. It is easier for them to ignore the suggestions, because they will continue to be employed and collect a paycheck.

How about we look at the salaries of the administrators like the fire chief of east moline. Robert Defrance makes way too much money and doesn't do anything.
