Well, if you're going to spend the money, why not start the Northbound reconstruction as soon as you get off the bridge in Old Saybrook? That's not one of my favorite places on the highway.

Why not just do the job right and expand I-95 to THREE lanes to the RI border and finish the Rt. 11 project too? Sure it's $$$$, but why re-engineer highway to dig it up and do it again later?

The area of exit 74 to the I-395 connector is a potential train wreck everyday as those getting on from the right want to cross two lanes of traffic in short space and at highway speed. Move that ramp northbound for starters because the off-ramp for exit 75 is 100yds after it and people can't move over and make their exit, or WON'T move over because they're obnoxious and just won't change lanes.

Three lanes would help spread out the traffic and give the trucks who are restricted in their ability to maneuver a little more operating room and the cars better visibility in traffic.

How about mandatory driver retraining for people who cause accidents like this. Or how about a sign that says "Accelerate when merging onto a highway." Or just close that on ramp entirely.

That last thing is probably the best answer...

Some vehicles don't have enough power to get up to speed on so short a ramp, and then to have some old timer get blind sided as he tries to shift over to the 395N fork on the left just after that is deadly...

I have been a resident of Niantic for atleaste 23 yrs. Every accident I have seen on that strecth of high way, was a result of cars speeding up to enter 95 as cars are slowing down in the same lane to exit, and or trucks with no where to go when it happens.
Does not seem like a very good lay out, 72,3,4 are the worste, that section, most likely all the way to RI, needs 3 lanes and a break down lane. The concrete barriers are a bandade on a broken leg. I hope it does not take some one else to get hurt, before they stop with the meetings and do something. It's only been what ? 48 yrs +/- of a known problem.
