This is exactly the reason that the US is in the boat that we are in. We should have many nuclear plants today than we do. Nuclear power has to be the prime path to our energy independence.

We as society have allowed the fringes rule the way we do things. Every human action has consequences - put your foot down and how many organisms have you killed and maimed?

I don't advocate the indiscriminate killing of plants and animals through machinery and pollution. Reasonable accommodation is required. No project is ever going to be impact free to the environment regardless of how "green" it is. Endless lawsuits are simply a waste of precious tax dollars and time.

It looks like all the disgruntled McCain voters are slumming around the backwaters of newsweb land looking for blogs to vent on. The Courant having a "liberal agenda"?? Please, everyone who actually reads the newspaper knows that Obama was the first Democrat they've endorsed for President since Kennedy. And so long as this lawsuit is alive, it's news, even if the plaintiff is a crackpot. One item missing from the story was an affirmation that the Oct.15 ruling went in her favor, which one might infer from the fact that this suit is still ongoing, but should be made explicit by the reporter...

Flies grow larger in suburban nuclear areas. They like hummed to.
Things really should be zoned in distance for various habitats-especially human.

I wonder where Ms. Burton would get her electricity from if she got her wish and shut Millstone down... such a hypocrite. She is nothing but sue-happy, trouble-making wacko.

Let's build cooling towers; they don't look too bad. Are you aware that ships have cooling water pumps? We could require the installation of sails while transiting Long Island Sound...

Just another NIMBY / BANANA.

Please, let's generate electricity the most expensive and unreliable way known to mankind, and make it so expensive we can get in line for bailouts too.

Europe has embraced nuclear power. Shouldn't we do the same? It seems like every time there is a comparison between the US and Europe, Europe does things so much better than we do. Did they get this one wrong?

europe does things better than we do. you are confused. i know that they have bigger wars than we do. i spent 2 years in europe and they seem about average but they did use the money we loaned them that they will never pay back to there advantage i guess that makes them a little smarter than us.

I will never understand why environmentalists don't just kill themselves to save the planet's resources. Now that would be front page news!!!

The Courant's title for the article equates warm water with 'pollution'. Doesn't anybody see a problem with that? Sure, it might be better for the fish if the water was cooled more before being released back in the Sound, but it is NOT pollution!

I think environmentalists shouldn't live in glass houses.
Unless they have a windmill, solar panel and geothermal, they need to shut up.

I see very few people running around naked and I'm guessing unless you work for greenpeace or WWF that you can claim your work doesn't contribute to pollution.

It certainly would be useful for Mr. Funkhouser to do just a little bit more fact finding for this article. Like how much is a 90% reduction in the fish kill. Is it 10 down to 1 or is it 100,000 down to 10,000. Like, what did regulators think of the existing cooling method when the plant was licensed in the 70's? Like, what is the cost of a new cooling system, and what is the impact on electricity rates. which are already one of the highest in the country.

The author incorrectly calls warmed seawater "pollution". This is misleading. While the intake of cooling water may entrap fish, the discharge of warmer water is probably of little or no consequence. Even billions of gallons into Long Island Sound is still a "drop in the ocean."

He was too busy tap-dancing around the fact that Nancy Burton - "former attorney" as he graciously called her - has, in fact, been DISBARRED. It's so difficult, you almost have to try to be disbarred in Connecticut. That's how unethical she and her small band of loonies are. But, hey, Funkmeister, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Taurus

Are you in listening mode today? Let's hope so because someone wants to bend your ear and they're hoping that you can spare the time and energy for them. Although your first instincts may tell you to give them plenty of advice, try to stop yourself volunteering it unless it's asked for. Even then, you may get the sense that you're really being asked to listen, not talk.
